As far as the deaths, I found myself going 'OMG' after most of them. Especially one in particular....I think most here have read it, but I won't say which one so I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't read. But I was thinking, how could they do that after what this other character has already been through. You can probably figure out which one I'm talking about. This is the first book in a LONnnggg time that has affected me as far as giving me the creeps. About a quarter of the way through it I had to stop reading it right before I went to bed b/c it gave me nightmares & I'd wake up in the middle of the night just to make sure the doors were locked. I know which death you're referring to and I was really shocked when it happened. I see at the beginning of this thread there is a discussion how Slade beats up on his characters and does he ever! Yikes! I stopped reading it at night too. In fact, when I was sick I tried to read it and had the worst surreal/nightmarish dreams (cold medicine at work) from it and I had to take a break from it till I got better. I'm really looking forward to Ghoul, I hope it arrives soon!

It seems really dangerous stuff Dangerous it is! Guess what - I'm reading Headhunter just right now - already am somewhere in the middle and enjoy it a lot! Glad that you both liked it, too, LDG & Phoenix - the Slade fan club on The Board grows bigger and bigger!

I see at the beginning of this thread there is a discussion how Slade beats up on his characters and does he ever! Yikes! Yeah, I know!! I was thinking, how much can he put these characters through. It's very unusual for books like that...it suprises you & that's something that's very rare in most stuff that I read. I like it!! ;D

spacer - I'll be glad to lend you my copy of Headhunter; if you dare read it, that is. As most readers of the book perhaps, I was damn shocked when the identity of the killer was finally revealed - I was SURE that after 150 pages or so I figured out who the killer was! Bravo, Mr. Slade - you did it again! Since Ghoul is Slade's tribute to H.P. Lovecraft I can't wait for your thoughts on it, Phoenix and LDG - after all, horror fiction ain't no stranger to you! I now have to get Cutthroat if I want to read the remaining books in the correct order.

Coming out in November 2005... Michael Slade, SWASTIKA
What's the dirtiest, still-kept secret of WWII? Special X Mounties manhunting the Swastika Killer threaten to expose it. The warlords of the Pentagon must make damn sure they don't.I, for one, can't wait already!

If you wait for me to finish mine (I'm about 1/2 way through) I'll send you my copy. I bought it used on amazon for like 3 dollars and it's beat up but still readable.
