I picked up "Death's Door" yesterday in BAM...the only ones they had this time were that & "Bed of Nails". I'll probably start reading it sometime this week, so I'll let ya know what I think.

Great questions mate..thanks for the interview.
It has to be said though that his last REALLY good book was "Shrink". With "Headhunter" and "Ghoul" being the best. The twists in "Ghoul" are just so good it may just be the best of the lot.

I was lucky enough to get "Ghoul" in London, and the rest of Slade's books I have read are the new ones (starting from "Evil Eye", that is), so I guess the best is still ahead of me, huh? Can't wait to open one of those finally!
Waiting for your thoughts on 'Death's Door', livingdeadgirl!

Is there a good place on-line to find his other books? Like I said BAM doesn't carry very many of them & that's about the only book store close to me. They're building a Barnes & Noble but it hasn't opened yet, so I'm limited as to where I can get books from. Any suggestions? And Bart, I finished the book I was reading this afternoon so I'll probably start the Slade book tonite or tomorrow so I'll let you know.

Amazon and Ebay are the best bet.

Hope all is well with 'Death's Door', livingdeadgirl? Honestly though: if you tell me "I can't read it", I won't be pissed or anything... Slade's books in general are very cruel - as he himself admitted; and 'DD', as you may remember from the interview, is one of his darkest books, so...

I'm about half way through it so far. I'm enjoying it, but sometimes it gets kinda slow w/ all the description of the Egyptian historical stuff, which is stuff I've already read about. But it's pretty good. I'll probably finish it sometime this week or this weekend if I have time.

Finished reading 'Death's Door' this weekend. I liked it, one of the better ones that I've read lately. Now I'm anxious to read his earlier books since ya'll have said that they are better than the later ones. Also to learn more about the Mephisto character from DD, he seems to be pretty twisted.

Glad to hear you liked it after all! I remember when reading my first Slade's book, "Evil Eye", it also bothered me that he uses so much space for historical detail; but that was because I just wasn't prepared for such stuff in a horror or thriller - and I must say that after finishing the book I felt much more satisfied because of all those historical passages: they made lots of sense plot-wise and I did feel a bit wiser, too.

I ordered Headhunter from Amazon the other day, so hopefully I'll be getting it in the mail soon!

So I want to read a Michael Slade book: Which one should I read first!?! HELP! The first..."Headhunter". In fact they are all best read in order, as numerous events that affct the main characters turn up throughout the novels.

Agree with 42nd. I started reading Slade's books from the middle - and still liked them a lot, but then often noticed what shocks I was missing, as in the later books Slade sometimes reveals (well, he has to) some important events from the previous books. So yeah, Phoenix - do start with Headhunter if you can! And livingdeadgirl - I envy you already! (Still haven't read this first book myself) ;D
