Braveheart (1995, Mel Gibson)
Gives new meaning to "Often imitated, never duplicated". Oh, I should mention... I caught this on the big screen! God bless Regal and their "Flashback Features". One of my all-time favorites. 10/10

Superbad (Greg Mottola) -- I was expecting good things and it did look funny (as an avid "Arrested Development" fan I was excited to see Cera doing something), but I think it fell short and that might've been because the main character wasn't very good, focused too much on cursing instead of being funny whilst cursing. Really a Captain Bringdown. B.
Personally, I think everyone should see "Stardust" instead.

The Invasion (2007, Oliver Hirschbiegel)
Seriously, how many times does this story need to be told? We get it. They're body snatchers. Don't sleep. Whatever. It doesn't matter how good the movie was, we really didn't need five versions of the same film. Loses points for originality. Also for clichéd dialogue and inserting a political statement that even though I may agree with it didn't really fit in with the story. It got a few points for having some genuine suspense throughout, which kept me into it, but you really don't have to see this one. 6/10
NOTE: Why is it that every time a foreign film director - who would do excellent films overseas - makes a mediocre film whenever he works in America? I blame Hollywood.
The Nun's Story (1959, Fred Zinnemann)
One of Audrey Hepburn's strongest films - a character study about a disillusioned nun in pre-WWII Brussells. It is a truly great film. 9/10

Marked for Death- Now this is unusual: Seagal makes a bad movie during his primary theatrical years. This film is bad. In fact, if not for good ol Stevie boys presence, I'd be rating this lower. The premise is ridiculous and everything was just stupid. But not even fun stupid. Stupid as in bad. It's the qyality of one of the USA netwrork type films he does now. C-.
Mary, Queen of Scots- A weaker costume drama. Great cast but no one really shines. Also, I started zoning out. The film is interesting, and one of its major pros is it's ways of showing how everyone died. Lol. B+.
Walk the Line- Again, good film. However, compared to films like "Coal Miner's Daughter," this musical biopic just isn't as good. Phoenix and Witherspoon are great, as is the singing. B+.

HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX (2007)
A tighter pace and less meandering than GOBLET OF FIRE, which imho makes it a better movie. Also a much darker tone than previous installments in the franchise. I can totally see Frankenjohn's previous "REVENGE OF THE SITH" comparison. I know others have complained about stuff that was cut from the book, but not having read the books, I have no idea what's missing. And hey, unlike the last one, I didn't doze off even once. Bonus! Still waiting for that "great" Harry Potter movie though. At best, I have found a couple of the movies in the series pretty good, but none of them have blown me away.
7/10

The Host - a modern day Godzilla flick set in Korea. It's funny how they villainize americans too. Overly long but still worth seeing if you like monster movies. 6/10
Superbad - funny but not like the funniest movie I've seen of this genre. wait for dvd is my suggestion. 6/10

BEYOND THE SEA (2004) Yes, Kevin Spacey is about 15 years too old for the role of singer/actor and all-around entertainer, Bobby Darin, but he's so good in the part, you forget that little detail pretty quickly. The film within a film gimmick is cute and even has a bit of fun with Spacey being too old for the part. Kate Bosworth is okay as the love of his life Sandra Dee, though it was a little weird to see Lois Lane getting it on with Lex Luthor. The movie gets extra points for Spacey doing all his own singing and dancing really well. It's okay as far as biopics about musicians go, but it's no RAY, WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT or THE DOORS. 6/10

Hairspray - Out of all the movies still playing in theaters (in my area anyway), this is the best one. Seen it three times, still can't stop the beat... 9/10
Superbad - A departure from the usual Apatow (and co.) fare... I didn't laugh as many times at this one as I did at say... Knocked Up or the 40 Year Old Virgin. Not to say this was bad though. In fact, I think I laughed at much as this movie as they wanted me to laugh. I didn't really find any missed gags or anything, it was just a nice little comedy about teen partying with a nice underlying theme of friendship (which, by the way, I'm a sucker for). I preferred Hot Rod and Knocked Up, but by no means should you avoid this one. 8/10
