Happy New Year everybody and welcome to the 2007 edition of the thread where members of "The Board" can post what movies they've seen lately. Whether you saw it in a movie theater or in your home theater we wanna hear about it. Whether it was on HD-DVD with widescreen and 5.1 sound or it aired on the USA Network where it was edited for content and loaded with commercials, we want to know. And don't just give us a list of movies, please. Tell us a little about it. Did you love it or hate it? Is it a "must see" or a "must avoid"? Was it directed by a household name or some young up-and-coming upstart? Sometimes I'm too lazy to go look up a title on imdb.com so a little info from you guys is nice. And if you want to really go all out with a full blown review of any title you see, new or old, feel free to write a review for the "Review Hell" section. But please check first to make sure one hasn't been written already and just add your comments to that one. Cheers!

Mysterious Skin- The first movie I've seen in 2007. And it's sick. Disgusting. Perverted. Yet this doesn't mean it's a bad movie. It's actually quite good. I found it predictable but solid. It does feel like an amateur effort though (which it isn't). B.

Awww man, Heineken . . . we had the other one going since like 2004 or 2005. Something like that. And it'll still be here if anyone ever wants to go back and re-read any of it. I just felt that starting a new one, that is year exclusive, will make it less cluttered and a little easier to manage. I actually wanted to do this for 2006, but didn't get around to it quick enough.

Watched last year but approved in the wee hours of 07: Attack of the Giant Leeches-Had more time been spent on the monsters than on the boring soap opera between the main characters, this might've been a better film. imdb.com/title/tt0053611/usercomments-58

I was going to go on this crusade and save the Just Watched . . . . section because, not going to lie, I created it and I was quite proud that something I made had the most entries but whatever. Choose your battles yadda yadda yadda.
The Devil Wears Prada -- I WAS going to go see this when it came out with the guy but the date fell through in some big strange way that I'm not even sure what had happened but I missed it anyways. It's actually really, really entertaining and good dispute the numerous cliches, because, let's face it, Meryl Streep is an excellent actress. In fact, the acting is pretty good all around, and who doesn't like dog eat dog films? Ahhhh. B+.

Underworld: Evolution (2006)
HD Video - Reference HD Audio Dolby Digital - 8/10 HD Audio LPCM - Reference
The Devil Wears Prada (2006)
HD Video - 10/10 HD Audio dts - 8/10
The film was meh.. HD stuff aside, I felt the story was weak, character development was off except 1 person & the ending with the big subtitles "Thank You for giving 20th Century Your hard earned Cash" wasn't called for.

MATCH POINT (2005)
Really good and different Woody Allen film. The ending caught me off guard. Not in a, "It's a big twist" kind of way, but just in a "not conventional" kind of way.
8/10

I don't - at least if they're as hackneyed as this one. The actors were all very good but the plot was painfully predictable! 3/10 As for Match Point mentioned by Heineken - this was one of my favourite films of 2006. 8,5/10

Gladiator - The Extended Cut. Haven't seen the movie in a while, so I couldn't really tell the difference. Still one of the greatest films ever. A+
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - I wanted to see this when it was in theaters but could never find the time (and it wasn't playing at the theater I usually go to). So finally caught this on DVD, and man was it worth the wait. Robert Downey Jr. was brilliant and Val Kilmer, well, he never ceases to amaze me. An intelligent, self-aware film with what is quite possibly the funniest narration ever. A

HOUSE OF WAX (2005) You know, I was all set to completely hate this movie. 1) Remake of a cult classic? Check! 2) First time feature by a former music video director? Check! 3) Cast made up of mostly young stars from tv series? Check! 4) Starring Paris Hilton? Check! What could go wrong, right? The set-up is pretty much the same as way too many other modern horror movies. A car full of mostly obnoxious teens on their way somewhere, this time it's a football game, end up in some wooded area where they usually encounter one or more local weirdos who always look like extras from DELIVERANCE. Luckily for HOUSE OF WAX, after that routine set-up, they start to deviate from the typical plot. I won't go into the actual plot-points as there is already an official review thread for this movie, but I will say that the set design and production values are actually pretty good for the wax museum itself. It's atmospheric and appropriately creepy. Which brings up the question, other than that it looks kind of neat, why on earth would you build an entire museum of wax? Not just the figures inside, but the actual structure, walls, floors, ceilings, furnishings, etc. are all made of wax. I don't know, but isn't that just asking for trouble? I mean, what if there was, oh, I don't know a fire, for instance, wouldn't it be hard to contain if everything is made of wax? What's next, House of Paper Origami? Just saying is all. Naming the killer Vincent after original star, Vincent Price is a nice touch. Oh, and any movie that includes Paris Hilton, the most obnoxious and annoying "famous for doing nothing" celebrity, getting a pole through her head can't be all bad. While it's no classic, I gotta say, it's not nearly the disaster I was expecting it to be. 6/10
