Sean Bean would have been perfect as Constantine.

Sean Bean would have been perfect as Constantine. Never thought about it before, but actually, that could have worked.

Hostage (2005) - Bruce Willis flick that rips off many different movies and is painfully too long. Lots of stupid slow-motion shots too. I almost didn't even care to watch the end.
2/10

The Last King of Scotland - Glad to see James Mc Avoy getting good roles and Whitaker was just awesome. Handled the story very well, a very violent story with little violence shown.

PrimevalThe commercials made it seem like some kind of fucked up serial killer movie. I walked in expecting to see another slasher flick inspired by Ed Gein. Imagine my disappointment when I learned it was about a fucking crocodile. Aw man, I thought it was about a serial killer too...the commercials looked pretty cool, I was looking forward to seeing it. Thanks for the heads up... Watched while my internet was down: Lady In The Water3/4- Very good! House of Wax(remake)(on HBO)1/4- Typical, it was nice seeing Paris Hilton bite it though... ;D From my dvd collection: Casino Gotti The Mafia: An Expose- 6 disc set Reservoir Dogs (w/ commentary) A New Hope Empire Strikes Back Return of the Jedi I think that's it...

Pan's Labyrinth -- well executed, great production values, interesting ideas and well acted and delivered. Great parallels and exceptional exploration of the similar themes of Guillermo del Toro's "Devil's Backbone". I really really wanted to love the movie but unfortunatley it falls into conventions, especially during the fantasy scenes but again it's so well-done that you can pass it over. I can't decide between B+ or A-.

The Last King of Scotland- The best performance of the year, the best cinematography of the year (CoM might have had some beautifully executed continuous shots, but the first-time cinematographer who did this adds so much appeal to the film and enhances its style), the best sound of the year, the best editing of the year, and the best picture of the year. A+.

The long shots are merely the highlight, if you want more analysis on it, I'd have to watch the film again.

Babel- A rich, deep film which offers four intertwining, engrossing tales. The highlight of the film is Rinko Kikuchi, who portrays a deaf girl so realistically. Remember, this is coming from someone who didn't dig 21 Grams. A+.

The Wicker Man(1973) 2/4- Most bizarre... Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist 2/4- I liked this version much better than The Beginning

CADILLAC MAN (1990)
Comedy starring Robin Williams and Tim Robbins. Not offensively bad, but not that great either. Just kind of there.
5.5/10
CHILDREN OF MEN (2006)
Thought provoking and original story, wrapped around action scenes that were as intense and well executed as anything in a war film like SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, for instance. Features several unexpected and shocking moments. Clive Owen gives one of his best performances yet and the supporting cast, ie: Julianne Moore, Michael Caine, etc. are all excellent. Loved the Pink Floyd visual joke! Anybody else catch that?
8.5/10

I think one of the saddest images from the film is the statue of Michaelangelo's David alone in that massive room and missing his leg. It's things like that that help elevate it from good cinematography to stellar cinematography and the best of year.
