Freedom Writers - Sure, it's been done before. But it still had quite an emotional impact. Here's an example of its impact: the audience I watched the movie with was very loud, rude, and well... stereotypical for the film's target audience. But halfway through, their eyes were glued to the screen, and they even applauded one of the monologues. That's pretty damn cool, don't you think? And of course, Hilary Swank was excellent. She reminded me of one of the teachers I had in high school. It's one problem would have to be the PG-13 rating. I'm sorry, but in a school THAT bad, I don't think the TEACHER would be the only one to say the word, "fuck". B

Curse of the Golden Flower - Good movie, great performances by Gong Li and Chow Yun Fat, awesome fight scenes and epic battle sequences. Only problem would be way too much urgent walking down bright and colorful highways. Really good movie though. B+

One of the biggest weekend of viewing in history: Kottentail-So unintentially hilarious that it should be a crime. And for a film with the balls to shoot a major sequence with a plush rabbit, I applaud thee. www.imdb.com/title/tt0361724/usercomments-2Shock-O-Rama-Filled with a fun atmosphere and cheesy theatrics, this was a nice, fun anthology series. www.imdb.com/title/tt0439294/usercomments-6The Dentist 2: Brace Yourself-Not as good as the first one, but man, was that tooth torture scene spectacular. www.imdb.com/title/tt0161492/usercomments-38Spellcaster-Seemed more like a supernatural film that slasher, but it wasn't all that bad. www.imdb.com/title/tt0096153/usercomments-6TerrorVision-The only film I've seen that rivals Rats: Nights of Terror in the most outrageously cheesy sweepstakes. www.imdb.com/title/tt0092074/usercomments-29The Entity-If you can get around the subject matter, this is a pounding, brutal film the way horror should be. www.imdb.com/title/tt0082334/usercomments-88Shallow Ground-Had this overcome it's gaping plot holes and inherent stupidity, this might've been at least somewhat decent. www.imdb.com/title/tt0369918/usercomments-73Trilogy of Terror II-Can't compare it to the first one, but at least the Zuni doll looks downright creepy. www.imdb.com/title/tt0117966/usercomments-22At Midnight, I'll Take Your Soul-If the other two Coffin Joe films on this month are this good, I'll have found my new favorite filmmaker. (And I can knock Brazil off the list of countries I haven't seen a horror film from) www.imdb.com/title/tt0059440/usercomments-24Die, Monster, Die-Quite possibly the sixth entrant in Corman's Poe films, it fits right in there with the others. www.imdb.com/title/tt0059465/usercomments-21The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb-Took forever for the mummy to get moving, but wasn't that spectacular when it did come about. www.imdb.com/title/tt0057986/usercomments-16SSSSSSS-Would've been a better nod to the 50's classics had the snake-man come in a lot earlier. www.imdb.com/title/tt0070622/usercomments-34Plus The Texas Chainsaw Massacre twice, one for each of it's two commentary tracks.

FIREWALL (2006)
Glad I didn't spend $9 to see it in a theater, but on HBO, I can be a bit more forgiving. Entertaining, but predictable.

The Fountain -- not as bad as the critics said nor as amazingly amazing as a lot of the fans say. It is well-acted, well-photographed, and presents interesting ideas. It's a little too in love with its intelligence, and its not even the most intelligent movie of the year, or thought-provoking. It's not as profound as Aronofsky made it out to be (I may not have liked how the characters were handled in "Babel" but that did bring up some thought-provoking issues like it promised). It tends to drag a lot as Aronofsky wants to ram this or that down your throat, but then he turns around and gives us charicatures. Open to lots of interpretations, though but still Aronofsky's weakest film and the themes are explored much better in "House of Leaves". B.

HARLEM NIGHTS (1989)
Written & directed by Eddie Murphy and starring Murphy, Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx. Starring those three, it should be a non-stop laughfest, right? Well, not quite. It's more like an African-American version of THE STING. It has some laugh out loud moments, mostly thanks to the foul mouths of Foxx and Della Reese, but for the most part it just made me smile. Pretty well made period piece that takes place mostly in the 30's, and Pryor and Murphy are suitably smooth characters as the owner of an illegal casino and his adopted son, respectively. Arsenio Hall as "The Crying Man" was just annoying though, so glad it was just a cameo. Nice diversion if you're not expecting a laugh-a-minute comedy.

Everything woulda been: My girl wants to party all the time party all the time party all the time. My girl wants to . . . and so on.

The Pursuit of Happyness - And the Oscar for best actor goes to....it's likely.
De javu - Like Face Off, ridiculous plot with cool action and direction. plus Jim Cavaziel was a real badass.
Pan's Labyrinth - Really really liked this. The way fairytales were intended to be told. Actually bit scary.
Severance - Another chronicle in the life of Danny Dyer's cockney wide boy.
Dukes of Hazzard - Decent, with a couple of class lines.
Date Movie - Utter shite, avoid.
The Transporter 2 - Turn off your brain and turn up the volume. Ludicrous but fun.
Mr and Mrs Smith - Not the worst, but didn't really keep my attention.
Primer - Donnie Darko for grown ups? Not really, however it is a clever time travel story that's quite original.
To Pulpmariachi, thank you. I thought I was the only person that hated that piece of shit film.

The Hitcher (2007)
Not a good movie by any stretch of the word, but I've certainly seen much worse. Sean Bean was great - unfortunately, his character had no depth. Someday, he'll be given a chance to show off his abilities as an actor. I don't know, aside from being a remake, this one loses extra originality points for its use of Horror movie cliches - including a car driving off a cliff, a gas station scene, a shower scene, a motel scene, rednecks, and the two protagonists being complete fucking imbeciles. But, you know, having watched all that, there are definitely worse ways to spend 80 minutes... But one would make better use of that time by watching the original. C-
