Vampires: Los Muertos on SciFi...as bad as I thought it would be, but it was nice to look at Jon Bon Jovi for a coupla hours. ;D I didn't think it was all that bad. I really enjoyed it, but never thought of comparing it to the first one.

Rescue Dawn - An excellent survival story with incredible performances by Christian Bale and the supporting cast, great cinematography, and great direction by documentary filmmaker Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man). 9/10
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace with Rifftrax
Truthfully, I preferred the riff on Episode II, but this was not without its charm. Very funny - they had some good burns for Jake Lloyd and of course, everyone's least favorite character, Jar Jar Binks.
Without Rifftrax: 7/10 With Rifftrax: 9/10

It made me realize what a pile of crap that movie really is - and their Riffs on it were great, they made some great points about the bad story, the annoying characters, and the bad acting. ;D

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds (Hayao Miyazaki) -- I think this is his 2nd best movie. The only weak part is some of the musical scores; they sound like an 80s video game. But it's pretty awesome throughout. A.

On the contrary, I believe George Lucas' strength is in his ability to concoct a story. It is the TELLING of the story where he falls flat, mainly because he can't write dialogue - and also does not know how to direct actors. He could have used the same story and worked with the crew that did the original trilogy, and everyone would love it. Ratatouille - I hate the use of puns to describe movies... it's such a film critic cliché. But I really can't help it... The second helping was better. Put me out of my misery, but I really felt that way. Here's to another Oscar for Pixar. 9/10 (I know last time I gave it a 10, but I've since changed my criteria)

The Haunting (99)-I loved it when I saw it in theaters, I loved it when I first reviewed it, but now after seeing it first the time in three years to tape it off cable uncensored, not as huge of a fan as I once was. The cheap scare gags still work, as I love the whole "those shouldn't be doing that/work like that" style always gets me, and the house still looks as uber-creepy and flashy as it once was, but now, just get on with it! This takes forever to get moving, and there's several scenes that just go on without accomplishing anything. Still fun, but I'm not as high on it as I once was.
Scream 2-For some reason, I still like this one a lot. The stalking here is miles better than the first one (that music/TV recording studio is simply chilling and the escape out the crashed police car) there's enough gore for me to feel satisfied and there's plenty of other arguments I can make for this one being the one sequel that surpasses the original. Still have problems with the whole "dead mother" angle, but that's leftover problems from the first one.

It didn't even cross my mind to compare it to the first one...just like I'd never compare the FDTD sequels to the original...just not in the same league. The Hills Have Eyes 2 1/4- Bleh....total waste of time.

Oh, I thought you were. Everyone I know who sees it says that it sucks because it wasn't anything like the original.
And I really loved HHE II as well. Good old slasher fun, with only a few minor qualms (the dog has a flashback?!?!) that only slightly kills it for me. I almost like it as much as the original, which I'm very fond of.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry
In a nutshell, if you like Adam Sandler, you'll like this movie. If not, then you won't. I like Adam Sandler, and I found the movie funny. And actually, even though it pokes fun at homosexuality, it does end up preaching tolerance at the end, which I thought was kinda cool. 7/10

I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry...even though it pokes fun at homosexuality, it does end up preaching tolerance at the end, which I thought was kinda cool. 7/10 No offense, but isn't that exactly what you figured it would do? I did and I haven't even seen it. I've read about all the running around that Sandler and company did getting approval from gay groups before release. Filmmaking by committee. At the end, did they have one of the main characters, probably Sandler, make a big speech about how everyone should get along and have tolerance for his fellow man no matter what their sexual orientation? And was that followed by "the slow clap", ie: at first just one or two people start clapping slowly, but it keeps building as more people join in? Spend an hour and a half poking fun and then preach some tolerance near the end to show you that "it was all in fun and we didn't really mean anything bad by the first 90 minutes.". They should've really done something different and have the guys actually fall for each other. Have the typical Sandler crowd running and screaming in the aisles. Hee hee. I'll wait for it to be on HBO. Watched last night: THE NOTORIOUS BETTIE PAGE (2005) Bio-pic about Bettie Page (natch), sex icon and 50's pin-up model. Ironically, back then she was mostly known for bondage photos, but now you can purchase t-shirts, trading cards, keychains, air fresheners (Mmm... smells like Bettie!). Hey kids, get your very own Bettie Page bobblehead! The film itself is just "okay". Without having really known anything about Bettie before seeing this movie, other than what I wrote in my opening line, there weren't a whole lot of surprises either. She had an abusive father, which is only really vaguely alluded to, an abusive husband, and is gang-raped in one scene. How she could ever trust another man after all that is beyond me. The only thing that was a real surprise was how religious she was. I never would've thought. Gretchen Mol is good in the lead role, but it's a basic rags to near-riches story. And the ending kind of left me with that feeling of, "Okay, what happened next?". Guess I'll have to look up a bio on the internet to get the complete story. 5.5/10

Hairspray (2007)
Damn, where did THIS movie come from? It was really, really good! Probably the best movie based on a broadway musical based on a non-musical movie yet! (Take THAT, Producers '05). A great ensemble with some great dance numbers, reminiscent of the musicals of yesteryear... what's not to love? 9/10
