FREDDY'S DEAD: THE FINAL NIGHTMARE (1991)
Freddy tormenting the deaf kid? Good. Freddy tormenting the stoner by making him a character in a video game? Bad. Very bad. A notch above the previous chapter, Part 5, but still not very good. The 3-D segment was really nothing special in theaters and it's non-existent on TV. Look for cameos by Roseanne and Tom Arnold, Johnny Depp & Alice Cooper, but it's really not worth sitting through this movie to do so.
4.5/10
TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY (2006)
This one really disappointed me. I laughed out loud a couple of times, but mostly it just made me smile and frankly, I was expecting a lot of belly laughs. 4/10

Children of Men -- I have been waiting for this movie for over a year...my expectations were through the roof...and it blew them all away. A+.

Dracula 2000-Yes, it's glossy, stupid and makes no sense, but it's a really clever attempt at originallity for the vampire genre. I wanted my money back after seeing this. And so did the whole group of friends I went to see it with. AND, I'm glad I didn't actually pay to see: BUBBA HO-TEP (2002) Gee guys, I know this movie has a lot of fans here at The Board, and I watched it with my hopes up because of that, but I found it pretty average. The concept is great, the acting is fine and for such a low budget movie, the production design, effects and even the creature itself were pretty well done. But I thought the story and script were really lacking. Not enough scares for a true horror movie and not enough laughs for a true comedy, so most of it just kind of sat there in some kind of limbo between the two genres. Though Bruce Campbell really looks nothing like Elvis, he managed to capture the essence of The King with just the voice, mannerisms and hairstyle/sideburns. Mostly I was just bored waiting for the laughs or the scares that for the most part, didn't come. 5.5/10

Little Children- This film is so simple, yet with great cinematography and editing, narraration, and knock-out Kate Winslet and Jackie Earl Haley, this film ups the anti from great to awesome. A+.

AMORES PERROS (2000)
Wow! Stunning piece of work by director, Alejandro González Iñárritu (21 GRAMS, BABEL). Somehow this one got by me until now. Grabs you by the throat from the very beginning. Three different interconnected stories meet head on in a car accident. If you like the fragmented, non-linear storytelling style of films like PULP FICTION & 21 GRAMS, then this should be right up your alley. Most impressive.
9/10
As a side note: Man, I love having IFC (Independent Film Channel) as part of my cable tv service. Where else can you see films as diverse as BUBBA HO-TEP one night and AMORES PERROS, the next? Uncut, unedited and in widescreen no less.

Amores Perros is Inarritu's best film so easily. Did you see his other two Heineken?
And . . . here's my Tarantino rant . . . films have been nonlinear long before Quentin hit the scene. But that's just me nitpicking at how much people credit him for "creating".
Sometimes the IFC channel just plays days of brilliance. But you know which one I love personally? TCM. Oh yeah....

All the King's Men (2006)
HD Video - Reference HD Audio Dolby Digital - 8/10 HD Audio LPCM - 10/10
Not the most entertaining film I ever have seen, but damn.. I couldn't find a single flaw in the PQ. The film shows off an incredible amount of detail without the slightest hint of noise making the 120m runtime all three dimensional looking. The LPCM track is also flawless, but it isn't the type of flick to throw in to wow your friends/family. Practically all front heavy, dialog is crisp & clear all the way through. The dolby mix isn't that bad, but I found the track sounded acoustically flat & the audible output weak in comparison to the LPCM track.

Amores Perros is Inarritu's best film so easily. Did you see his other two Heineken? Just 21 GRAMS, which was very good too. And . . . here's my Tarantino rant . . . films have been nonlinear long before Quentin hit the scene. But that's just me nitpicking at how much people credit him for "creating". Easy big fella, I was only metioning PF as another nonlinear film that I was sure most have seen. Not crediting QT with anything. Sometimes the IFC channel just plays days of brilliance. But you know which one I love personally? TCM. Oh yeah.... TCM is good too, but IFC usually shows more films I haven't seen already. Great to have both options though.

THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE (1981) Just goes to show, it never ends well for shiftless drifters (Jack Nicholson) who get involved with sexy, married women (Jessica Lange) in loveless marriages. Fine remake of the 1946 movie starring Lana Turner and John Garfield. 7/10 ROCKY IV (1985) Rocky avenges the death of Apollo, wipes the floor with that Russian commie bastard Drago, and ends the Cold War, all in one movie. Nice propaganda and audiences ate it up back in '85, but man is it corny now. Also noticed, this movie is only about 90 minutes long, but it features not one, not two, but THREE montages! That's a lot of filler for a not very long movie. Each montage is accompanied by some of that really bad 80's synth-pop ala "Eye of the Tiger". Oh, and that robot that Rocky gives Paulie as a Birthday gift and psuedo-comedy relief! Awful! 5/10 ROCKY V (1990) After ending the Cold War and bringing peace to the world, Rocky goes back home and discovers he has brain trauma thanks to repeated blows to the head. Also, thanks to a shady accountant, Rocky and his family are financially wiped out and resort to moving back to the old Phillie neighborhood. Thanks to his injuries he can't get licensed to fight so he takes promising young fighter, Tommy Gunn under his wing. A real hothead with a bad attitude and limited acting skills. That this kid would eventually turn to the dark side and betray his mentor is more apparent here than in the Star Wars prequels. Speaking of Star Wars, Burgess Meredith makes a return appearance here as the Obi-Wan Kenobi-like spirit of Mickey, who dispenses sage advice to Rocky. This was probably the highlight of the film as it brings a little heart and emotion to the movie. The Don King-like boxing promoter is as cartoony and over the top as Clubber Lang or Ivan Drago in the previous installments. Big continuity goof between parts IV and V: At the end of Rocky IV, Rocky Jr. is about 10 or younger. But, at the beginning of Rocky V, which starts immediately after the fight with Drago in Part IV, (Not the 5 years that actually passed between films.) Rocky Jr. is about 13. Not only is it a different kid playing his son, but apparently he aged a lot while his parents were in Russia. I guess no one was forseeing the future of home video and that we'd be able to someday watch these flicks back to back and notice discrepencies like that. 4/10 Thank God for ROCKY BALBOA (2006). A fine film that completely washes away the bad taste left behind by these other Rocky sequels, brings the series back to it's original roots and ends the franchise on a high note.
