I liked it a lot more than that, Heiney, enough to call it an 8.5 out of 10. That finale simply won me over and I fell in love with it. Plus, it's gorier than it should've been, and was a fine slasher. Plus, it's gorier than it should've been, and was a fine slasher. That's fine, it's more your cup of tea than mine. And to be honest if the first half had been more original and not followed the typical "Modern-Day Horror Movie Plot Instructional Manual", I might've scored it higher. It does get better, but it's about an hour into it before they even walk into the Wax Museum. And I stand by the fact that building the museum out of wax is just pretty stupid. Once they establish that, don't you pretty much expect that the big climax is going to be the whole place burning, and melting, to the ground? Even one of the Three Little Pigs figured out that bricks are a better material for building a house from. Another cliche, exactly who I assumed would survive, did. I think all things considered and how truly awful this could've been, a 6/10 isn't too bad. It's above average.

Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006)
HD Video - Reference HD Audio dts - 9/10
Wasn't really much of a fan of the original. The sequel has more of Scrat (sp?) in the film & those scenes are funny.. It does look perfect in HD.

I gave it a 4, and THAT'S higher than I expected to give it. I guess any movie where... SPOILERS IN THE FOLLOWING SENTENCE READ AT YOUR OWN RISK ...Paris Hilton gets slaughtered... ...can't be considered one of the worst films ever. By no means is it good... but you know, I've seen worse.

HOUSE OF WAX (2005) While it's no classic, I gotta say, it's not nearly the disaster I was expecting it to be. 6/10 6/10 from me, too, and exactly the same thoughts on it. And I just saw the mighty Phantasm II. Still can't decide which one I like more - the cheaper original or this crazy sequel...

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET: THE DREAM CHILD (1989)
Hadn't seen this one since it was first in theaters and now I remember why. These really did get cheesier and cheesier as they went on, and by Part 5, the cheese was really beginning to stink. Watch out for skateboarding Freddy!
4/10

The Wedding Banquet -- pretty good, sweet, funny little movie about a gay couple who arrange a fake marriage to please one's parents, get a woman a green card, and make a tax break. I think it's better than Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain". B+.

HOTEL RWANDA (2004)
Great film pretty much carried by Don Cheadle, who is in almost every scene. If you liked SCHINDLER'S LIST then you should give this one a look.
8.5/10

Over the New Years weekend I saw:
Rocky Balboa - great ending to the franchise. 8/10
The Betty Paige Story - cute little film about the pin-up queen. 6/10
Underworld: Evolution - I didn't like the first one and I didn't like this one either. 4/10

Mad Max -- kinda slow and kinda dated, but the car chases are still great because you just feel the spped. Oh, and back before Mel Gibson was a total hack too. B.

The Breakfast Club (1985)
HD Video - 9/10 HD Audio Dolby Digital Plus - 8/10
For a flick over 20 years old I had low expectations for PQ. Yes the film does look its age but in a good way. Honestly there isn't much improvement with the color, but this didn't distract me from the video presentation. There are minor specs of film grain in a few places.. Very minor, ya blink, ya miss it. Unlike Field of Dreams on HD, The Breakfast Club doesn't have much video noise. This is the transfers strongpoint in my opinion because blacks are rock solid & it gives most of the films run time that three dimensional look.. No apparent compression artifacts either, none that I could spot. This disc is also a single-layered HD-15. I thought the audio could have been tweaked or re-mixed ..something.. The film is practically all front heavy, (which isn't a bad thing) the DD+ is balanced well throughout but dilaog isn't as crisp or clear as newer films. There is little the track has to offer even at 1.5 Mbps. Not a massive disappointment overall, but it isn't leaps & bounds better than the standard DD track either.
