I Think I Love My Wife
Not a bad first try for Chris Rock. Nothing spectacular either. Chris Rock's best work would be his stand-up, followed by his work in Kevin Smith movies. But this was better than most of Rock's big screen attempts, and in a way it's a promising look at a future writing/directing career. C+

I Think I Love My WifeNot a bad first try for Chris Rock. ...in a way it's a promising look at a future writing/directing career. C+ He also wrote & directed HEAD OF STATE and has screenwriting credits on a couple of other flicks. But yeah, as much as I like Chris Rock as a stand-up, his film career has been real hit or miss. I never really get excited about a new Chris Rock movie. But then I could say the same about George Carlin. THE MISSION (1986) Jeremy Irons and Robert DeNiro play a Spanish Jesuit and a converted slave hunter respectively, who are forced to defend a South American mission against Portugese aggressors. Despite this powerhouse acting duo, I found it kind of dull except for the last 15-20 minutes or so when things come to a head. 4.5/10

Lake Placid-To merely acqure the deaths in it, and was so much mor enjoyable than the last time I saw it, back when it first came out. Sarcastic sense of humor much more present and made for a lot of great laughs.
Cat People-Watched and did the review for this one earlier in the year, but watched it as an uncensored version was taped off TV.

The Last Mimzy
Have you seen the TV spots for this one? The ones calling it the best fantasy film since E.T.? Well, essentially... it IS E.T. I mean, this loses serious points on originality... which was disappointing, because I thought it would have been a very original picture. The technical aspects were fine. The movie was well-made, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested, but there are too many parallels with the 1982 classic, and I'm angry with the filmmakers for thinking we wouldn't notice. C based on originality alone, but I actually liked it more than that. So B-

Heart: Alive in Seattle (2003) (HD DVD)
HD Video - 9/10 HD Audio Dolby Digital - 9/10 HD Audio Dolby TrueHD - 10/10
The case shows Dolby Plus & my receiver shows Dolby Digital. Despite this, both tracks sound very good. I found the PQ to be a bit soft & it has a little noise in some areas but overall the AVC transfer is near perfect.

Reign Over Me
Every once in a while, Adam Sandler has to break away from his sophomoric (yet highly entertaining) comedies to show the world that there is, in fact, an actor behind the waterboy. And that's when he'll surprise you. Reign Over Me is easily Adam Sandler's strongest performance. This dark comedy-drama should moved me to tears. I'm really beginning to like this Mike Binder (The Upside of Anger) fellow. A

12 Monkeys -- it's been ages since I've seen this and it's definitely one of Gilliam's best (though what can compare with Brazil?) and features one of the creepiest, crazy endings ever. There do seem to be some moments for the sake of being bizarre and weird but that's okay because overall, this is a really well put-together and thoroughly engrossing film. A-.

Alice Cooper: Live At Montreux (2005) (Blu-Ray)
HD Video - 9/10 HD Audio Dolby Digital - 8/10 HD Audio dts - 9/10
The Holiday (2006) (Blu-Ray)
HD Video - 9/10 HD Audio Dolby Digital - 9/10 HD Audio LPCM - 9/10
Picture & detail is a bit soft throughout the film. I didn't notice any artifacts & color is great. I did find the picture to look a little dark, could be intentional though. Presented 1.85:1 & transfered in AVC with a VBR in the 30's, the picture quality throughout is very consistent. The Dolby Digital (640kbps) & LPCM (4.6mbps) tracks are surprisingly a wash. I sampled many scenes, the dialog, surround effects used, etc. etc. That said, this obviously isn't the type of film which should rattle your home theater.. Dialog is always clear & what little surrounds are used throughout the course of the film do not interfere with the center channel making this track very front heavy. Overall, a solid transfer & a not so bad flick to boot.

It Happened One Night
Capra's classic romantic comedy retains the charm it had all those years ago. Great film. A+
