Bridge to TerabithiaClear cut case of expecting one thing and getting something else. Something BETTER. The trailers don't do the film any kind of justice whatsoever. I walked in half-expecting another fantasy-book-only-turned-film-because-of-the-success-of-Lord-of-the-Rings. Imagine my surprise when I walked out. I was caught completely off-guard. I got something in my eye a couple times... um... yeah... Great film. I know, I've said this twice already but bear with me - it's only the beginning: Best of 2007 thus far. A I should also mention, AnnaSophia Robb and Josh Hutcherson are wonderful actors and both have great careers ahead of them. I was angry when I saw the trailers because that was one of the books I grew up on and I thought, "They've turned it into a fantasy?" I've heard since what really happens though I still haven't seen the movie. The trailers don't do it any justice at all, and make the movie look like Narnia redux. I was glad to see that it wasn't.

Don't know how busy you are and all, but if you have time, you want to stretch this or another movie into a fully-fledged review for the section? We need to get some more in there. I'll just need some time to write it, but sure, I'll do it. That was the conditions under which I asked, so whenever's good for you.

Doom - it was bad, very bad. actually, hilariously bad.
Lady Vengeance - Korean film, follow up to Oldboy. It was just so-so.

The 40 Year Old Virgin - You watch it a few times, the jokes just aren't as funny... mainly because you anticipate them. But the charm never died out. A-
Adaptation. - Charlie Kaufman is either disturbingly psychotic or a profound genius. Either way, this is one of the greatest movies ever made.

Black Snake Moan - This movie was bad-ass! Craig Brewer made an interesting, original film. This was Christina Ricci's best performance, and one of Samuel L. Jackson's best. Justin Timberlake wasn't bad either (although he could use a little bit of tweaking)... And Christina Ricci's got a killer body. A
All Quiet on the Western Front - Well ahead of its time. A war movie that stands the test of time even 77 years later. A+

Anne of the Thousand Days- One of (if not) the greatest costume dramas ever. Great performances all around and a great telling of the story of Henry VIII leading perfectly into the story of Elizabeth I. A+.

The Conformist (Il Conformista)
Bertolucci's masterpiece about a man who pretty much agrees to sell his soul in order to fit in. One of the best-directed movies I've ever seen. A+

Invincible Ironman on DVD - animated made-for-DVD feature. not to shabby but it's not really an origin story.

THE YAKUZA PAPERS: BATTLES WITHOUT HONOR AND HUMANITY (1973)
First in the five-part criminal underworld saga from Japan. A little confusing at first with all the many characters, frenetic camera action and on-screen violence, but satisfying if you stick with it. Violent and a pretty high body count.
7/10
