Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
As with any other comedy, the jokes pack less of a punch the third time around. But as a great comedy, once the jokes wear out, you'll find more to appreciate. A

I also just watched Borat. Very funny, but I don't see what all the fuss is about to be honest. Not with the film, but the controversy

300- It was a sumptuous visual feast, complete with amazing visual effects, and an inspiring message. Now if they could tone down the sexual elements, stick to history more, and use ancient dialogue this film would be even more awesome. Now I know this was totally sticking to the graphic novel, but to take from history....might that not have been better? Hmm? A.

I still haven't seen it - I will totally be catching this movie tomorrow night.

Zap, if you can, see it in Imax. 300 was my first Imax movie and it was just awesome.

SILENT MOVIE (1976)
Mel Brooks' comedy about a director trying to make a silent movie in 1976. Not Mel's best, but it's a cute idea that does have some funny moments. Great cameos by some of the biggest stars of the time.
6.5/10

Hedwig and the Angry Inch -- interesting movie about a transsexual whose ex-boyfriend runs off, steals all her songs, calls them his own, and becomes much more successful. So Hedwig and her band, the Angry Inch (it's explained in the movie) shadow his tour and we get his/her life story. Like "Rocky Horror Picture Show" meets "This is Spinal Tap" though it tries a little too hard be the former. B.

Witness for the Prosecution- Leave it to Billy Wilder and Agatha Christie to create a good little courtroom drama. B+.
La Strada- Fellini makes another good film yet again fails to blow me away. B+.

Pulp, did you ever read my review of HEDWIG? It's in the cult films section if you want to check it out.
300 (2007)
Visually, it's wall-to-wall "eye candy". Some pretty stunning battle scenes with lots of carnage & mayhem. Some really nice effects and interesting cinematography.
In the story department, it's slightly better than average. After several scenes of battle, you kinda realize that's all there really is to the movie. Not really a knock at the film, but what you see in the trailers is pretty much all the movie is. I think if it had gone on much longer I might've started getting bored, but luckily it ended just in time. Love or hate Miller's SIN CITY, it had a more interesting story than 300. It was entertaining enough, but story-wise, I think I prefered BRAVEHEART, TROY or GLADIATOR.
7/10

Awaiting your review Zap and I'll comment more, but like everyone else else I saw 300. 9/10 for me, it was just stunning. Some of the extra storyline feels forced but this is a movie that should be seen on the big screen.

Cimarron
This 1931 Oscar winner is very underrated today. People consider it to be dated, but I didn't notice. It has definitely aged, but I really enjoyed it. And honestly, the Academy has picked lesser films for Best Picture. The art direction, costumes and camera work were fantastic, and the story had my attention. Not enough people saw The Broadway Melody for me to start a Controversial Movies thread on it, but should I start one for this movie? A-
