Solo con tu pareja -- Alfonso Cuaron's first film, pretty hysterical (the English title was "Love in the Time of Hysteria" though it literally translates to "Only with your partner"), strange ending but I had fun. B.

I'm gonna be quite honest here... I prefered the American version by Gore Verbiski. I just couldn't get into the Japanese version. And I'm not a big fan of that particular director's work. If I'm not mistaken, he WAS responsible for the travesty known as the Ring Two.

A River Runs Through It- Beautifully photographed and scored, this simple tale of two brothers caught my heart. Great job, Robert Redford. A.
Children of a Lesser God- William Hurt and Marlee Maltin are perfect in their roles, and they have terrific romantic chemistry. This film just goes to show you that love is blind...or deaf. B+.
Sleuth- It's too slow to really work, the leads aren't that great, and the mystery wasn't engaging enough to work as good as it should've. B-.

PRIZZI'S HONOR (1985)
Jack Nicholson and Kathleen Turner as hitmen who fall in love and then are hired to kill each other. Two great leads, an excellent supporting cast (Angelica Huston won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar) and one of our greatest directors, John Huston. The film itself felt a little lacking and a bit slow though. Good, but not quite as much fun as I'd remembered from previous viewings.
7/10
KISS KISS BANG BANG (2005)
Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer are both very funny in this film noir/dark comedy. The narration by Downey is witty and pokes fun at the genre, and I loved the moments where he broke the fourth wall and spoke directly to the audience, acknowledging that he knows we're watching a movie. The plot was just "okay", but I wouldn't mind seeing these two actors team up again for another adventure playing these same characters.
6/10

The original Ring 2 was awesome though.

FINAL DESTINATION 3 (2006) It is what it is. Like the previous installments, some teenagers escape death at the beginning of the film and then are systematically wiped out one by one. The deaths are gruesome and inventive and seriously, do we watch these for any other reason? I still have to see Part 2. 6.5/10 SLEUTH (1972) Sleuth- It's too slow to really work, the leads aren't that great, and the mystery wasn't engaging enough to work as good as it should've. B-. While I'll go along with you on your other two points, I have to disagree regarding the leads not being that great. Michael Caine and Laurence Olivier? Two of the greatest actors that have ever lived? Both were fantastic and the main reason to see this movie. But I really was expecting more from the overall film. 6.5/10

Ghost Rider - I thought it was a pretty damn entertaining popcorn flick. There were a few details that bothered me - some of the iffy dialogue comes to mind as well as the director's annoying tendency to make the villains' voices echo. What the fuck? And of course, the unnecessarily long backstory which could have been condensed into a minute-long narration by the great Sam Elliott (and let's face it, his narration of the prologue was fucking awesome). In the scheme of things, I preferred it over X-Men 3. I mean, it's not one of the best comic book flicks, but it's more of an average comic book flick... very fun to watch. And the special effects were fantastic! B-/C+

I saw this on Saturday morning and at times I did grimace with the bad dialog and some of the cheese.... but by the end I was actually enjoying it! The special effects are really awesome. I have to say that it was a guilty pleasure. And, at least here in Tampa, leaving the theater the buzz was really positive.

The Last King of Scotland
Starts off pretty slow... it was starting to look like a typical indy flick. But towards the end, it gets really intense. Yes, Forest Whitaker gives a great performance. Best of the year? In my opinion, not really. I'd sooner give that title to Ryan Gosling, Leonardo DiCaprio, even Sacha Baron Cohen who was not nominated. Also, the Academy once again nominates the SUPPORTING character for the LEADING role. Still, great performances all around, and a well-made picture. A-/B+
Blade II
First time seeing this installment, and I gotta say it kicked all kinds of ass. A little bit too much CGI, but Guillermo del Toro's direction makes this one of the better comic book movies I've seen. B+

A Passage to India- David Lean's last epic is a tour-de-force film, an enjoyable and engrossing ride. Does it stand up to his earlier epics? No, but it still is great. A-.
