Yojimbo (1961)
Akira Kurosawa's classic, remade countless times. Toshiro Mifune is now one of my favorite actors. After seeing him in Seven Samurai and Yojimbo, I can see he had talent. It was a very cool movie, featuring the bad-ass character who paved the way for the Man with No Name. Excellent movie.

After a dip into the waters of Asian cinema and more mainstream horror fare...42nd Street Freak has returned to his Grindhouse roots with a viewing of Andy Milligan's suitably mad "The Man with Two Heads"

K2 2/4 stars
Not a bad independent flick. Seen this before & imo has a better story than Vertical Limit, but the effects are far less superior. The transfer isn't great, VHS standards.
Darkness - 2004 1/4 stars
Not scary at all. The story was pretty week also. Great dvd transfer though. Sinse most of the "supposed" scary scenes happen in complete Darkness, the black level is strong throughout & the surrounds are used appropriately.

After reading many great reviews I finally watched Far From Heaven - and got a mighty bore of a film. Oh, so there is the Dennis-Quaid-locks-lips-with-a-dude shocker, beautiful photography and Julianne Moore but hey: where's this piece of wonderful cinema I was promised?!

"Dragonslayer"
Ddddddddamn. Now heres a nice little Fantasy flick, hidden under a PG rating and even funded by Disney. Shocked
Peter MacNicol (Ghostbusters II, Ally McBeal) stars in his very first role, as an apprentice sorcerer who must take up his recently diseased masters vows, and help a nearby village from destruction by a very nasty dragon living up in the mountains.
A pretty neat little film that doesn't get the recognition it deserves. I was quite surprised to see quite a bit of people get killed, with one actually getting immolated right in front of the camera, a bit of gore, a decapitation, and even a brief glimpse of nudity, all underneath that PG rating and even tagged with "Disney" in the cast.
A cool fantasy flick, complete with dragons, sorcercy, adventure, a goofy ending, and even love!

"Dragonslayer" Ddddddddamn. Now heres a nice little Fantasy flick, hidden under a PG rating and even funded by Disney. Shocked The special effects in that one are incredible for the time, aren't they? Right up there with Carpenter's "The Thing." They even snuck brief nudity and gore into that film. I just watched Black Hawk Down. Love that movie.

Agreed Quorthy Black Hawk Down a great one. I felt like being in the middle of the battle myself. But that flick I watched some time ago. Lately, I watched Kill Me Later (2001) with Selma Blair and Max Beesley. A very good kind of black comedy. A gothic looking black-haired girl wants to commit suicide but is interrupted by a robber who takes her hostage but promises that he does the dirty job later. Definitely worth seeing. A very unorthodox and quite unusual shooting technique (I mean the camera of course ;D) and witty excellent dialogues too.

We finished the CUBE trio last night watching Cube: Zero. It's a 'prequel' to the other two movies and not that great. It never answers the question of WHY the cube is there although they had a bigger budget for gore, a smaller budget for computer special effects.

I watched also Crime Disorganized (1989). An all-star comedy with Lou Diamond Philips, Fred Gwynne, Corbin Bernsen and Ed O'Neill. A Tagline tells everything: Five crooks without a plan. Two cops without a clue. And one bank vault without a scratch. Really Hillarious and I laught a lot.

Saint Ralph (2004)
It's a foreign film from Canada!
Actually, this was a pretty good movie. It's probably just gonna fall into obscurity (unfortunately), but it's a really good offbeat comedy with a lot of heart. If you have any independent theaters around, look for this one.
You know me, I always like an obscure movie.
Wonderland (2003)
Wow... it was slow at certain points, but when something was going on, it's done right. It has an excellent (and funny) intro with Carrie Fisher. Some of the scenes are really intense, and all the actors did a great job... Even Lisa Kudrow. The same year she did Marci X, no less! Good movie.

Last night we watched DEAD CALM. Hadn't seen it since it was originally in theaters. Neat little thriller with Sam Neil and a soon-to-be-famous Nicole Kidman as a couple terrorised at sea by an insane Billy Zane.

Am not CRAZY about it, but like it and saw it several times already. There's a sequel out there as well.
