A Hard Day's Night--one of the best films ever. A+
Orange County--a surprisingly good teen comedy, mainly because it mocks teen comedies, admission processess and high schoolers and college student. B.

CASINO ROYALE (2006) Quite simply, I thought it was one of the best Bond films ever. It reboots the entire series, ala BATMAN BEGINS, and it works. Though if you're starting fresh, keeping Judi Dench as M was an odd decision. Daniel Craig, just on the basis of this one performance, is now up there with Connery and Brosnan as one of my favorite Bonds. And I agree with Zap that the Chris Cornell theme song was excellent. Also really dug the creative opening credits. The foot chase in Madagascar alone was worth the price of admission. My main beef, and I'm seeing this more and more, is that it gets a little long towards the end. What's with so many filmmakers nowadays who feel like they have to give us mutiple endings? 2 1/2 hours was too long for this film. I would've probably rated it even higher if not for that. Overall though, I thought it was great. 8.5/10 Also saw my usual Thanksgiving viewing: PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES (1987)9/10

Tenacious D in 'The Pick of Destiny'
Simply put, I freakin' love this movie. Didn't have much of an epilogue, but I don't care. It was funny. B+

The Woods- McKee's weakest film yet. It has a bit too many dull moments. Good to see Bruce Campbell in a serious role though. **1/2. I have this one on my Netflix list...didn't know Bruce was in it.

He's got a cameo in that one, LDG. It's not a role like Ash: think more of Spider-Man but with a couple more scenes and you'd be on the right track.
For me: Bloodmoon-Highly impressive martial arts actioner starring a personal fave of mine, Gary Daniels. The best undiscovered martial artist of the time, this one could be his very best one. Like most of these films, it's just an excuse to have a never-ending series of fights one-after-the-other, but are they impressive, and coupled with the normal action movie fare (chases, shoot-outs, explosions and so on) there's tons to love here and rarely a dull moment.

Joyeux Noel- It's a heartwarming film where you care for the characters that you don't even know the names of. ***.

B+ I saw this too (forced to go because I was outvoted by my brothers and husband). I think if I did drugs it probably would have been a lot more awesome. 5/10

Bobby
The critics are like the Grinch. Their hearts must be three sizes too small. That's the only explanation I can come up with for how they could NOT like this movie. Sure, at first it looks like total Oscar bait, but towards the end it really draws you in and tugs at your emotional strings. Very well-crafted. I'm sure Altman would have done it better, but Estevez did a great job in his own right. A-
The Fountain
Did I miss something? So, movies that require audience thought are a BAD thing now? Never mind that this was a well-crafted, beautifully acted, and above all VERY ORIGINAL human drama, you mean to tell me the fact that Aronofsky didn't second-guess your intelligence is actually a bad thing? Is that what you're trying to tell me? Well, quite frankly, I disagree. A-
Jesus, critics. You're way off this year.

The Crying Game- It was a good movie, but it would've been better seeing it if I had no idea whatsoever of what happened in the film. ***. Sucks when a movie's 'twist' is revealed to you beforehand, doesn't it? Just watched: BILOXI BLUES (1988) Matthew Broderick & Christopher Walken both give pretty restrained performances in this cute flick about young army recruits in boot camp during WWII. Based on the Neil Simon play. 6.5/10 BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN (2005) Finally saw this last night. Pretty good, but a bit overhyped. Well acted and directed and beautiful cinematography, but if it was a story about a guy and a woman cheating on their spouses because they fell in love while working together, I don't think it would've been as praised and would be considered kind of an "ordinary" love story. In fact, most moviegoers would've thought the cheating couple were a pair of real assholes. I mean, even their spouses seemed like good people so I can't even say, well no wonder they continued to long for each other and cheated, look at the idiots they were married to. Not the case here though. I think Pulp said something along the lines of, it almost seems like it was overly praised so everyone could say, "See how accepting we are of homosexuality?". I have to agree. If it wasn't Pulp, I apologize. Not sure why Heath Ledger mumbled most of his dialogue. And considering the movie spans about two decades, those guys didn't age very much did they? Strong and heartbreaking ending though. 6.5/10
