Saw III - You either like Saw, or you don't. I do. And this was a worthy entry to the series. B+

Dozed off even in the middle. 2/10 I felt the Brothers Grimm was more of a disappointment than a terrible movie. With what he had to work with, Terry Gilliam was capable of much better. What could have been a classic ended up being a forgettable, mediocre film. It's not without its moments, but overall it was just okay.

I wouldn't blame Gilliam for that movie but rather the Weinsteins. They're quite possibly the worst thing that ever happened to independent film and as well as the worst screwers of the filmmakers. I heard he made "Tideland" in response to that, but it hasn't been recieved very well so I'm wondering. Oh I just watched a bunch of old sex education videos. They were hilarious.

The Weinsteins took one too many liberties with this film. I read somewhere that Gilliam was very irritated over their vetoes. And as posted elsewhere, Tideland only got a poor reception among film cynics... er... critics. A 7.0 IMDb rating (1000+ voters) suggests a movie that is at least good... not to mention mostly positive user reviews (and not merely the "OMG BEST MOVIE EVUR" kind, either). Second time I strayed off subject. Back on hand, as mentioned before, I did see Saw III and enjoyed it.

FROM DUSK TILL DAWN (1996)
Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez collaboration about the brothers Gecko, Seth (George Clooney) and Richie (Tarantino), who are on the lam after a bank robbery and trying to escape into Mexico. Along the way they kill a few people and kidnap a preacher (Harvey Keitel) and his kids. When they stop at the rendezvous point, a biker/trucker bar, all hell breaks loose. Cool, mixed genres film that about halfway through, transforms seamlessly from a crime thriller into a horror thriller. Fun, bad-ass B-Movie anti-hero performance by Clooney, and Salma Hayek is as sexy as it gets as the bar's main stripper attraction, Santanico Pandemonium. (The greatest stripper name ever, not to mention, a name lifted by QT from a Mexican horror flick.) Witty dialogue, great music and cool gore effects. A modern drive-in B-movie in an age where there are almost no drive-ins left.
7.5/10

MUDHONEY (1965)
My third and least favorite Russ Meyer movie, the others being BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS and FASTER, PUSSYCAT! KILL! KILL!. More serious than those other two titles, but still featured some of those wacky Meyer characters.
6/10
THE CRAZIES (1973)
Between NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and DAWN OF THE DEAD, this was one of the movies made by George Romero. A virus is accidentally released on a small town and the military must deal with the infected who are driven violently insane. I found it kind of boring. Well made for a low budget film, but pretty slow paced.
On a side note. It's being remade and is scheduled to be released in 2008, though 28 DAYS was kind of an "unofficial" remake.
4/10

...28 Days LATER, you mean of course, Heineken. Haven't seen The Crazies but I guess I should - even though most reviewers, just like you, seem to be unimpressed with it.
On Halloween I saw The Invisible Man for the FIRST TIME EVER! The f/x are very good (mind the era it was produced in), and some scenes are truly memorable, especially at the beginning, but the conclusion didn't do much for me and the characters were too often annoying. Not James Whale's best effort but entertaining nevertheless. 6/10

You know, 28 Days is just as scary as 28 Days Later..., but just for different reasons entirely.
