Hollywoodland - One of the best movies of the year. Great cinematography, interesting story, and great performances all across the board. I've never jumped on the Affleck-hating bandwagon, so I've never felt he had to redeem himself for anything. But for those of you who feel otherwise, he redeems himself in this film. A+

I Heart Huckabees - This definitely wasn't everyone's cup of tea... but it sure as fuck was mine. A By the way, Jude Law's got some nice tits.

Ethan Mao--despite the facts that the performances aren't all top-notch or even good for the most part, it's still a tense story and pretty suspenseful. B-.

Went through a Euro Zombie phase yesterday:
Spain: Let Sleeping Corpses Lie-Highly underrated zombie film. Great all the way around.
Italy: Burial Ground-A very highly rating one on my all-time favorites list. Recommended.
Germany:Premutos: Lord of the Living Dead-Finally understood most of it this time around,. but it's still a pretty confusing movie. A gorehound favorite.
France: Pesticide-I still don't know why Rollin did so many vampire films. He can do so many other types just as good.

Back to School--okay okay okay, I'm going to have to explain myself a lot for this one, but I'm giving it an A-. Mainly because the comedy works, and all that it is. Rodney Dangerfield constantly keeps you rolling on the floor laughing, and the situations are so outrageous...but plausable. It's not pretentious or artsy or whatever else you could call most of the movies that are generally ranked incredibly high. The film knows what it is, it has pitch-perfect timing, it knows when it's best to execute a certain joke, a montage, a whatever. It's certainly not in my top 10 films of all time, but objectivley speaking, this is a masterpiece of its genre. In fact, I like it better than "Animal House". Also, with the added bonus of Kurt Vonneegut, who obviously doesn't understand the first thing about Kurt Vonnegut.
In related news...they're planning a remake of this movie...with Cedric the Entertainer attached. Ugh.

In related news...they're planning a remake of this movie...with Cedric the Entertainer attached. Ugh. I really like that one too, for all the reasons you mentioned. The comedy is just ROTFL ("I once wrote a love letter to a teacher before, she corrected it and gave it back to me;" Sam Kinison's scenes) and the situations present are nicely used to provide jokes, not the jokes force the situation. It's one of my favorites, and it's far better than Easy Money or Meet Wally Sparks. One of the best sources around (outside Caddyshack) to prove his comedic genius. Headbanger: A Metal's Journey-Documentary on the history of Metal, from it's classical roots to blues and steel beginnings to the modern day groups. Thoroughly fascinating, providing coverage of Death, Black, Thrash, Glam, Power, Traditional, Rap-Metal and The New Wave of American Heavy Metal. Really interesting and well worth a watch. Bart, if this is on over there in Poland or you see it in stores, pick it up. I think you'd like it.

Been away for a couple of weeks. Here's what I've seen:
NYPD BLUE: Season 2 (Disc 4)
LOONEY TUNES: GOLDEN COLLECTION - VOL. 2 (Discs 2, 3 & 4) (Some real classics in this set.)
STAR WARS: EPISODE I - THE PHANTOM MENACE (1999) (My least favorite entry in the series, but still has a few good moments.) 6/10
