Shakespeare in Love--decent performances, except from the overrated Judi Dench. Kind of predicatable but still lovely. B. Gladiator--I don't know if I like this film or not. I mean, I think Ridley Scott is a piss-poor director who has made a few good movies--but overall I'm not WITH his entire filmography (Black Hawk Down, 1492, Kingdom of Heaven, Hannibal). But I guess this is among his better films (along with Alien and Matchstick Men). I'll give it a B- for the time being. The editing is horrific for one thing, that like, double-shot effect is overused. The plot's trying to be something more than it actually is, adding to a running time that should be trimmed a bit. Still...B-. I disagree. Judi Dench is NOT overrated, but I must admit she totally did NOT deserve the Oscar for Shakespeare in Love. The Academy should take some time to consider the difference between a cameo and a supporting role.

LOST HIGHWAY (1997)
WTF?? Except for Robert Loggia's "roadrage" scene which was hilarious, and Patricia Arquette's many nude scenes, I want my two hours back. I know David Lynch isn't for everybody, but again I ask, WTF???
3/10
Also recently watched:

Macbeth--the Roman Polanski version. It's an ugly movie, and I don't mean ugly in the way that the situations are ugly, no it's not artful like that. Polanski throws out all the depth and character of the play--the way that a murderer's mind works and the psychois and divulgance into insanity that follows--in favor of violence. Whatever violence was in the play originally is not gratuitious. Scenes were messed with and the whole film played with the chronology, going in and out of Shakespeare's work as it pleased. C+.

Apocalypse Now (Redux) - Do I really have to tell you? A+
Beerfest - For all you Broken Lizard fans, this is my personal favorite Broken Lizard movie. Stupid, stupid fun. B-
Cannibal!: The Musical - The sky is blue, and all the trees are green... This is a great first movie for Parker and Stone. It dragged at parts, but it was still a clever, funny movie. B+

American Pie- My least favorite in the series. Invincible- Not a good football movie. Disagree on both counts. American Pie 1 is my favorite of the three, and Invincible, while not a GREAT football movie, manages to be a good one. Anyway, American Graffiti (1973) - So you're telling me the guy who co-wrote and directed this masterpiece is the same guy responsible for "I wish I could just wish away my feelings"? All joking aside, this movie was brilliant, and timeless. A+

Little Miss Sunshine- Very funny, but a little more dramatic than I expected.
The Wicker Man (73)- It's a musical where a guy asks where a girl is and Christopher Lee is in a hairpiece. And it sucks.

Certainly one of the best British films of the 70s outside of Hammer, the mystery is enthralling, and talk about a whopper of an ending. Probably up there with the original NotLD for most down-beat twist ending around. And any film that features a nude Britt Ekland dancing around and singing never will score less than 8 out of 10 in my book.

One from my childhood-
Godzilla, King of the Monsters-Been ages since I've seen this one, and it still holds up more than beautifully. Forgot how much fun it was, while also recognizing so many different themes and plots I never did before. See the review for complete feelings and thoughts. (Another 1,000 worder!!!!)

I mean, I didn't know that's what it was for, but it wasn't much of a twist. Creature- It was actually a very good sci-fi horror Alien rip-off.
