Running on Empty (1988) - A wonderful drama, with great acting. The biggest tragedy in the history of film would be the day River Phoenix died. That guy could have done so much with his talent.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) - A second time. Critics are full of shit. Dead Man's Chest was better than Superman Returns. And remember, I LIKED Superman Returns.
Stage Beauty (2004) - A hidden gem, but worth a look. Especially if you're like me and have an admiration for theatre, this is an interesting look at its history. Great layered performances by Claire Danes and Billy Crudup.

Critics do seem to be pretty evenly split on this one. Either for how much they loved or hated it. It does sound like it might be a little too long, the first one almost overstayed it's welcome as well, but I still want to see it.

I saw this and almost liked it in the it's-a-pretty-bad-film sort of way. Who was the director here...? As for Dead Man's Chest - I'm going to see it as soon as I can, no matter what the critics say. Saw: The Aristocrats - not all that funny, sure, but it was nice to see all those comedy gods together (Gottfried vs. Schneider was a blast!); where was Chevy Chase, though? He's got no time for starring in such docs, right? Also: Crocodile. Now, this was just very poor. Except for the fact that some secondary characters were nicely OTT you couldn't even notice Tobe Hooper's touch in it.

U-571 (2000)
Writer, director Jonathan Mostow's (BREAKDOWN, T-3: RISE OF THE MACHINES) fictionalized account of an American submarine crew who board a German sub during WWII to try to capture their Enigma coding machine. Never happened, but makes for a pretty entertaining action yarn.
7/10

Goofy, no-brain required Creature Feature that whizzes by without overstaying it's welcome. I jumped a couple times, so it seems Hooper does have some tricks up his sleeve yet. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was. Just saw- Dudley Do-Right-Yes, it's pretty stupid, but I laughed a couple times when I was supposed to, so it did do something right.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) - A childhood- YES, childhood- favorite. I was watching this when I was 6. I loved it then, and I love it even more today. One of the greatest achievements in the history of film, no doubt in my mind.

A Minute to Pray, A Second to Die-Interesting Spaghetti Western, played on cable-TV here, and I thought it wasn't half bad. Most recognizable face is Arthur Kennedy from "Let Sleeping Corpses Lie," so this wasn't a typical genre outing. Like most, the opening thirty, thirty-five minutes are set-up and characterization, and from there goes into the gun-blasting, thought not as much as I would've liked. Worth a look for fans of the genre, I don't think they'll find too much to not like here.

I jumped a couple times, so it seems Hooper does have some tricks up his sleeve yet. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was. I jumped here and there during Crocodile as well but these were all fake boos of the worst kind (i.e. a jokey dude jumps at a girl from the shadows when she is all tense after listening the Croc Urban Legend). I could accept all this perhaps if the beast looked a bit more decent than it did but... The pretty main actress saves it from being a total croc turd, in my opinion. Haven't seen anything worse by Hooper. And Fred Olen Ray - yeah, sure, the Director Of Many Names. He has never made a really decent film and so Glass Trap is one of his most enjoyable works, I think. Quorth - hope to see your review of The Hills Have Eyes remake or Hostel here!

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest--I liked it better than the original, a film in the vein of Indy, great adventure, didn't even feel the length; felt like more was coming but was surprised when I found out it was a cliffhanger. Was that a spoiler? B+.

Lone Star- Ahh, it was a decent mystery.
Superman Returns- Pure frigging gold. Best film of the year yet.
Deep Impact- Decent, but riddled with plot holes (or plot craters?).
Local Hero- Enjoyable and cute.
Philadelphia- Watching Tom Hanks become deteriorized by AIDS was one of the hardest things I've ever watched.
Runaway Train- Great action flick.
Norma Rae- Nothing special, and that's coming from a Sally Field fan.
Wonder Boys- I loved the performances.
Broadcast News- Not really funny, but it was a "nice" movie.
Leaving Las Vegas- Too much slow-mo, but otherwise a phenomenal film. I love the "The Whole Year Inn/The Hole You're In" part.
In the Name of the Father- Wow. This was just one all-around fantastically made movie.
Midnight Express- Oliver Stone shows early promise as the writer of this great film.
Memento- The coolest storytelling ever. PERIOD!
