On IFC last Friday:
DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978)
Hadn't seen this one since a midnight show in the mid-eighties. Good stuff. Still holds up pretty well. Other than the basic premise of a group hiding from zombies in a mall, it's quite different from the recent remake. Which, not making a scene by scene retread, was a good move on the makers of the remake.
8/10
At a theater yesterday:
SUPERMAN RETURNS (2006)
I'll be adding my comments to Pulp's review in Review Hell later.
7.5/10
On DVD last night:
SE7EN (1995)
Great psychological thriller about a serial killer using the Seven Deadly Sins as his theme or m.o., to lead detectives Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt down a dark path. Some good atmosphere in this one.
8/10
I also watched the pilot episode of BLADE: THE SERIES, last Thursday night on Spike TV. Better than it should be, after there having been three theatrical movies already. I don't think the actor playing Blade (Kirk "Sticky" Jones) has Wesley Snipes' charisma, but maybe that'll develop in time. The production values, set design and effects were not bad at all. And it wasn't as watered down as I thought it might be. The fight choreography could've been better though. Jones has the physique and the look, but you can tell he doesn't have the martial arts skills that Snipes has.

The Boondock Saints
My friend and I started watching this a couple days ago, and we had difficulty getting into it, so we stopped the DVD and went to watch something else.
Last night, I figured... everyone was telling me how good this was, how is it that I didn't think so? So I picked up where I left off, and finally realized what made this movie so great. So what we got is an excellent film with a weak beginning.

Where The Truth Lies - rather disappointing Angel-A - ah, how the mighty Luc Besson has fallen! Sin City - again, still good Minotaur - ha, ha! Into The Mirror - great creepy start, boring middle part, good ending

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Funny, witty, clever. I don't know how I haven't seen this before now.

THE BEN STILLER SHOW - Disc 2
Overall, like most sketch comedy shows, ie: SNL, SCTV, MAD TV, etc, this was hit and miss. Some of the sketches were hilarious and others, er, not so much. Bonus points for sketches featuring characters that were not run-of-the-mill, Charles Manson and Bruce Springsteen, for instance.

The Rundown (2003) 16 Blocks (2006) - Again What great flick. David Morse has been in some real good roles & it was nice to see him & Bruce duke it out during the flick, great acting all around.

The Ten Commandments (1923, Silent version)
33 years before his epic masterpiece, Cecil B. DeMille made ANOTHER Ten Commandments film, years ahead of its time. Of course, the second half takes place in modern times (modern for the time the film was made), and then gets a little preachy. But overall, a fine piece of cinematic history.

BOYS DON'T CRY (1999)
Hillary Swank gives a strong performance in this sad and thoroughly depressing film.
7/10

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Superman just got one-upped for best film of the summer. Early critics need to have their heads examined, they obviously haven't seen the same movie I have. That, and they think they're funny.
Full review coming soon.

And critics tended to despise the first Pirates movie (which I really loved) so I didn't expect them to like the second.

Lethal Weapon (1987)
Film - 8/10
Classic 80's action flick
Syriana (2005)
Film - 7/10
Didn't know that the creators behind this were part of the successful Traffic film. This was kinda hard to follow, will need to watch many many more times. Oil, yeah I got that part.
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (2005)
Film - 7/10
Been awhile sinse I've seen a messed up "in a good way" type comedy. A few laugh out loud moments. I'll always remember the "1 bullet in chamber" scene. too funny.
