HIGH ANXIETY (1977)
Never quite reaches the level of BLAZING SADDLES or YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, but this Mel Brooks' spoof of Alfred Hitchcock movies is still more satisfying, IMHO, than the more recent Brooks offerings. 7/10

Click
The first half: an average, run-of-the-mill, nothing special Adam Sandler movie. Not bad though. It's entertaining, but not as funny as, say, Happy Gilmore.
The second half: Serious, dramatic, almost a tear-jerker.
So basically, we start off with Big Daddy, then we end up with a futuristic It's a Wonderful Life. And funny enough, it works. This is one of Sandler's better movies. Think about it, how many of his movies can make YOU cry?

House of a 1000 Corpses-Just to get a review, but as it's too fucking long for IMDb, I figured the unedited version needed to go somewhere.

SUPERMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES - Volume 1 - Disc 1
Probably one of the best versions of the Man of Steel to ever be brought to the screen. Right up there with the '78 Christopher Reeve movie. The voice work is perfect (Tim Daly as Superman/Clark Kent, Dana Delaney as Lois Lane & Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor, among others.) and the animation and stories are some of the best things to ever be featured on an animated tv series. Fun and exciting enough for kids, but older fans will enjoy it too and not feel like they're watching a "kiddie cartoon". The 90 minute pilot episode, "The Last Son of Krypton", retells the basic plot of SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE, but in a fresh new way so that it doesn't have that "been there done that" feeling. Jor-El, Superman's Kryptonian father, literally kicks ass in this version. This guy is not going down without a fight. Anyway, if you're a Superman fan, an animation fan or just curious about a really good version of this oft-told tale, check out this dvd set. Highly recommended.
HOUSE OF A 1,000 CORPSES (2003)

The short version: 6/10
CINDERELLA MAN (2005)
Finally saw this on HBO last night. How this movie did not do well at the box office is beyond me. Great performances, a touching true story, a respected director. What went wrong? Despite all his off-screen antics and bad reputation, this film will make you appreciate, once again, Russell Crowe's acting ability and commitment to his craft. He's just fantastic in this role. As he was in GLADIATOR, A BEAUTIFUL MIND and MASTER & COMMANDER. Crowe is the real deal. Paul Giamatti, as usual, is great too. Zellweger gets the "typical wife" role. She's fine, but really not anything we haven't seen before. Great boxing sequences too. 9/10

Syriana- Great acting and plot. Can't see why anyone would bash it. I like Syriana. Except it's as confusing as...heck.... Time Bandits--Terry Gilliam does a kids movie. Enough said. B+.

THE SKELETON KEY (2005)
Meh. Nice little twist ending, but the first 90 minutes were pretty routine. ANGEL HEART did the New Orleans voodoo stuff much creepier. John Hurt as a stroke victim, collects a big paycheck for essentially laying in bed and not speaking for most of the movie. I kept waiting for the reason that a "name" actor was cast in this role and it turned out that pretty much any old man could've played that part.
4.5/10

Syriana- Great acting and plot. Can't see why anyone would bash it. I like Syriana. Except it's as confusing as...heck.... I thought Syriana was boring. Ok, it was intelligent and well-acted, but my friend and I both found it difficult to get into. I may give it a second chance soon enough, but in all I felt it was overrated.

Superman II--oh dear God. Zod. A-. You know, I laughed so much at this movie it's kind of growing on me. "Come to me, son of Jor-El! KNEEEEEL before Zod!" That has to be one of the campiest lines ever written, up there with "No time for love", Darth Vader's "NOOOOOOOOOO!" and "Warriors... come out to play-ay..." It's a funny movie, real fun to watch. The first one runs circles around it though.
