Hairspray (Mark Shankman) -- Great. A.
Watership Down (Martin Rosen) -- a beyond worthy adapatation that isn't afriad of glossing things over -- so much so that it can be quite disturbing at times. It's a little rushed and sometimes relies a bit much on the viewer's familiarity with the novel; it's still grand regardless. A-.

THREE OUTLAW SAMURAI (1964)
Kind of a low rent SEVEN SAMURAI, ie: Samurai come to the aid of farmers, but fairly entertaining. A bit slow at first, but ends up having some pretty good action.

Juno- A pleasant little surprise, but it really deserve all of those accolades? Especially over the year's real best film "American Gangster?" I must compliment Ellen Page on her witty performance that really made the movie. Also, great screenplay by Diablo Cody. A couple of good laugh-out-loud moments with a touching storyline. B+.

Yeah, I would have given it to Juno over American Gangster. But American Gangster DID deserve it more than Michael Clayton.

I'd give it more over "American Gangster," too. That wasn't even close to being the best movie of the year. Ratatouille, The Simpsons Movie, No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Hairspray, Hot Fuzz...all better than "American Gangster."

THE LAST STARFIGHTER (1984)
Sci-fi comedy-adventure about a teenager (Lance Guest) whose only escape from his dead-end trailerpark life is the arcade video game, Starfighter. When he gets the high score on the game he is recruited by aliens to fight in a real intergalactic war. Silly movie, but significant for being the first to feature most of its effects done on a computer. All of the spacecraft are computer generated and they look like they're out of a video game, but it's interesting to see this early version of CGI.

MUNICH (2005)
My comments in the "Movie Genre of the Month" thread.
THE 400 BLOWS (1959)
Truffaut classic about a young kid in Paris, who, neglected by his parents, starts acting out in school, and eventually gets into petty crime. Pretty good, but considering it's revered as such a classic, it didn't blow me away. Just a good movie.

Jurassic Park (1993, Steven Spielberg) with Rifftrack by Mike Nelson and "Weird Al" Yankovic It was a little over ten years ago Weird Al recorded the song "Jurassic Park" as a parody of "MacArthur Park", and that remains one of his funniest songs in my opinion. So his decision to join Mike Nelson in Riffing Spielberg's classic Dinosaur feature enticed me to purchase the track and watch the movie again. Once again, they do not disappoint. Great riff on a great movie. Film and Riff: 10/10

DEATH RACE 2000 (1975)
No Rifftrack neccesary. ;D
David Carradine and an unknown at the time Sylvester Stallone, star in this low-budget sci-fi flick about a cross-country race where points are earned by hitting pedestrians. Goofy, campy fun produced by, who else, Roger Corman.
4.5/10

Frida-See thoughts in Movie Genre Thread.
Whisper-Really slow, uneventful supernatural film that won't get a review, as in essence nothing at all happened in the film. Wannabe hoodlums kidnap rich kid for ransom money to go legit, only to realize that they may have kidanpped the son of the Devil, which is a wonderful idea but this one does it the complete opposite of trying to be entertaining. this one is one of the most uneventful films ever, with nothing happening and the kid "whispering" evil thoughts into the others to get them to turn on each other, which may or may not be all in their heads. See this one if you enjoy the Rosemary's Baby style build-up. 4/10
