THE BIG LEBOWSKI (1998)
From the Coen Brothers comes this pretty funny movie starring Jeff Bridges in one of his signature roles as Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski. A bowling, White Russian drinking, stoner who gets involved in a case of mistaken identity, when his beloved oriental rug is pissed on. After all, "It really tied the room together." The Dude abides indeed.
8.5/10
THE BUCKET LIST
Two terminally ill guys (Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman) leave a hospital's cancer ward with a bucket list (A list of things to do before you die, or, kick the bucket.) I thought this was pretty decent. Nicholson and Freeman are as good as they always are and it's a lot of fun to watch these two old pros on-screen together. Some of the things they do are a bit outlandish for a couple of guys in their 70's (skydiving & car racing), but most of it is pretty believable and doesn't go over the top. Funny, dramatic and a few sweet scenes.

KING KONG (2005)
My thoughts in the Movie Genre of the Month thread.
FREQUENCY (2000)
A man (Jim Caviezel) in the present finds his dead father's (Dennis Quaid) old Ham radio and is somehow able to communicate with him, when he was still alive, 30 years in the past. His father was a firefighter who tragically died in a warehouse fire in 1969. The son in the present is able to warn his father in the past and save his life. What starts out as a sentimental "feel-good movie" suddenly takes a much darker turn, because as we all know, we can't mess with the past, without it having consequences in the future. The father and son must then try to stop a serial killer who will personally affect their lives due to their changing the father's fate. Really suspenseful and original film with some sentimental father and son moments. Good performances by the entire cast and especially impressive are the leads.

Over the last month or so... Hancock- 2/4- Better than I thought it would be, enjoyed it. Dirty- 1/4- Really bad....starring Cole Hauser, (who unfortunately was only in like two scenes in the whole movie...) and Cuba Gooding Jr. with not very inspiring performances as corrupt cops. Blah...
There's a couple more I've watched but can't think of them right at the moment...

THE HUNGER (1983)
Catherine Deneuve plays an ancient vampire whose vampire lover (David Bowie) suddenly starts aging rapidly. A doctor (Susan Sarandon) who is researching premature aging gets caught up in the mix and she becomes the vampire's next partner. Visually interesting, but really slow-paced and dull.

WALL·E
The message in the film can be a bit heavy handed, but this a very charming family film with beautiful animation and one of the most lovable characters ever in an animated feature (well in my opinion). Maybe its the kid in me, but I absolutely adored this movie.

Get Smart
I was in a good mood when I watched this movie (I watched it right after WALL·E) so I definitely went into the right way. Not all of the humor worked (in fact, a couple of scenes seemed terribly out of place) but when it worked, I found it to be a lot of fun. A nice balance of comedy and action, and I like the cast. I enjoyed it.

Step Brothers
Okay, I was still in that good mood.....but this one didn't work for me at all. Probably because I can only stand Will Ferrell in very small doses. Also, this kind of crude humor has to be done very well for me to enjoy it, and there HAS to be something else going on, I have to give a damn about the characters instead of just waiting for the next disgusting gag. I know a lot of people enjoyed it, I did not.
3/10 (it gets a three just because one scene gave me one pretty good laugh. yes, ONE)
A Streetcar Named Desire
From one of my favorite plays by one of my favorite playwrights, it also happens to be one my favorite films ever.

OLD BOY (2003)
Without warning or explanation, a man is kidnapped and imprisoned in a room for 15 years. Suddenly one day, again without explanation, he is released. He tries to find out who imprisoned him and why, and plots to get revenge on his captors. Pretty good film by Korean director Chan-wook Park. Some striking visuals along with violence that are typical of Asian cinema. Didn't blow me away (saw the big twist coming long before it happened on-screen) but was fairly entertained.
