KISS OF DEATH (1995)
My thoughts in the Movie Genre of the Month thread.
GONE BABY GONE (2007)
Ben Affleck's directorial debut about two Boston detectives hired to investigate a little girl's kidnapping. Dark, gritty crime thriller with an unexpected ending. Good performances by the entire cast, especially Casey Affleck, Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris and Amy Ryan. Nice directing job by Affleck.

Strange Behavior ('81)
Definitely a slow start, and there is nothing spectacular here, but there were a couple of effective scenes, and quite a few unintentionally funny scenes (oh and at least one WTF moment, the costume party...haha) that makes the film worth the watch for someone that enjoys '80s genre films and doesn't expect too much.
5/10
Fido ('06)
Kind of warm and fuzzy for a zombie film, isn't it?.... ;)Its not exactly subtle by any means, but the premise is great, and it is a clever film. Funny, if not always laugh out loud hilarious, different and overall a very enjoyable film.

Red ('08)
Surprisingly effective, mainly due to Brian Cox and his quiet, moving performance as a man whose dog, Red, is callously shot (without reason) by three teenage boys. Yes, its flawed, there are some minor plot problems, and it is a tad heavy handed and melodramatic at times. It also moves quite slow. This is NOT a straight out bloody revenge film, if that is what you are looking for, look elsewhere. But if you don't mind the slow pace, and you are interested in smaller budget, thoughtful films, its definitely worth a watch. Also, even though it is not overly graphic, it may be a bit hard for dog lovers to watch.

WANTED (2008)
An office worker (James McAvoy) finds out that he is the son of a man who was part of a secret organization of assassins (Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, etc.) with amazing killing abilities. Mindless action film based on the comic book by Top Cow Productions. Thought I would enjoy this one just as a popcorn movie, but found myself not really giving a damn about anyone or anything in this flick. Guess I just never really bought into the premise.

Hancock ('08)
I've heard a lot of bad about this movie, so I was actually surprised that.....I enjoyed it. Is it perfect? No. There are some misses here. There is the lack of even one interesting villain. Some of its very funny, while some of the other humor falls flat. And there are some character issues (I wasn't buying the ending with husband and wife, that's all I will say). Oh and there is a rather....abrupt shift in the "feel" of the majority of film compared to the last few minutes or so. But overall, its a good popcorn flick. And I just love the idea of a superhero that is such a jackass he needs a PR man.
6.5/10
Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer ('07)
When it gets going, really a lot of schlocky fun. I've seen it done better, its no Bad Taste or Evil Dead 2 (though you can tell it desperately wants to be), but it lived up to my expectations.

SHOOT 'EM UP (2007) Completely over the top and ridiculous, but unlike WANTED, which I also recently watched, I was very entertained by by it. Maybe it was Clive Owen and the always entertaining Paul Giamatti, who made it watchable for me. James McAvoy, star of WANTED, is no Clive Owen. A B-Movie that knows it's a B-Movie and embraces it with no apologies. 6/10 AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH (2006) Documentary that features former Vice-President Al Gore and his slideshow presentation raising awareness about the problem of global warming. Insightful, educational, entertaining and an eyeopener. 7.5/10 3:10 TO YUMA (2007) My thoughts in the Movie Genre of the Month thread.

Pretty much how I felt about it. At least someone besides my husband agrees with me, it seems a lot people REALLY disliked it at a couple of other forums I visit. Live Free or Die Hard ('07) Okay, I watched the unrated version of this film, so I liked it SLIGHTLY better than I thought I might. But....as I expected, it just didn't feel much like a Die Hard film. It felt more like a Transporter film or the like, several of the action scenes were over the top and ridiculous (to a distracting degree) and I didn't like that. Its just not what I expect, or what I want from a Die Hard film. Disappointing, but at least somewhat entertaining at times. 5.5/10

Over the last few days:
HORROR OF DRACULA (1958)
JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH (2008)
My thoughts in the Movie Genre of the Month thread.
STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS (2008)
Feature length version of the animated series currently airing on Cartoon Network. I've been watching, and really enjoying the series, but just now got around to seeing the movie version, which is basically the first 3 episodes of the series, re-edited together to form one 90-minute feature. It is, what it is. Did people need to shell out $9 or more, to see something at a theater that they knew would be on tv for free in a month or so? No, not really. Which is probably why it bombed. To be fair, the three episodes that make up the film, have not aired on tv as part of the series, so this film version is currently, the only way to see them. Like the series, it has great visuals and good voice work. And like the show, the story has moments of greatness and moments of just "meh". Like the prequels, some of the "humor" leaves a lot to be desired. I'm still trying to wrap my head around Jabba the Hutt's uncle, Zero the Hutt. Unlike Jabba, he can speak English. Did I mention that he's also very effeminate, wears makeup (or were those tattoos all over his face?) and speaks like Truman Capote? True story. Weird.
