Thank You for Smoking (Jason Reitman) -- hilarious and full of great, dispicable characters all around. A-.

Over the weekend, I watched Iron Man, We Own the Night, and Alien vs Predator: Requiem. The review of AVP-R is up--take a look. It still wasn't the high calibre of, say, Aliens or the first Predator film, but it was surprisingly better than Predator 2, Alien Resurrection, and of course, that dreadful first AVP film.

We Own The Night 2/4- A bit long and slow at times but overall not bad Hitman 1/4- Some pretty good action scenes...but that's about all.

The Sea Inside (Alejandro Amenabar) -- There's more humanity, life, and beauty in this movie than almost any other. A.

SHREK THE THIRD (2007)
Nice animation and voice acting, but where's the funny? Just as I suspected when I skipped this one at the movies, a case of too many trips to the same well. Think I'll skip SHREK THE FOURTH too, if they make that one.

Bobby (Emilio Estevez) -- the first two-fourths are a Nashville/Magnolia sort of ensemble as people prepare for the Democratic California Primary and it might slow down a bit and get convoulted and confusing, but that last act, in the convention, the ballroom, is powerful and perfect. A-.

HULK (2003)
My thoughts in the Movie Genre of the Month thread.
LAYER CAKE (2004)
A pre-James Bond Daniel Craig stars as a cocaine dealer planning to retire, but as is the case in most movies of this type, getting out is always near impossible as there's always "just one more big score". Pretty good.

DARKON (2006)
Documentary about a group of Baltimore residents who participate in a roleplaying game every few weekends. But instead of sitting at a boardgame or a computer screen, these folks actually create characters, dress up in medieval garb, and face off in mock combat. Kind of interesting to see these people, most of whom seem to be social misfits or at the very least, lead the most drab of lives, and then to see them in character on the "battlefield". Overall, above average entertainment.

Black Devil Doll from Hell-A contender for the worst movie ever made. How can such a brillaint premise, repressed Catholic women buys cursed doll from shop, perverted doll turns woman into slut and when she finally discovers the true nature of the change, tries to stop the doll, could be wasted on pure crap. Absolutely nothing at all that's worthwhile about this, ignore it completely. Man, the Italians or Spanish would've had a field day with this premise back in their hayday. .5/10

Monster House (Gil Kenan) -- vastly underrated but very very good movie (maybe the best animated film from motion capture). B+.
