You know, watching the Indy movies, you see that Raiders really has the perfect balance of the qualities of the other two. Temple of Doom was predominantly dark, violent, and intense whereas Last Crusade had lots more humor and relationships and such. Radiers balanced them perfectly.
Jesus' Son (Alison Maclean) -- Impressive adaptation of really disjointed but brilliant short stories. There's a more coherent narrative here that's not in the short stories, but it's well-delivered if it goes on a little too long. B+.
Year of the Dog (Mike White) -- Quirky little comedy about how that crazy dog lady becomes that crazy dog lady but you should look down your nose for her because of it. Cute and sad, funny and tragic. B.

Yup, that's why RAIDERS is perfect and the sequels are "only" really, really good. Unlike the pair of sequels I just watched: THE BAD NEWS BEARS IN BREAKING TRAINING (1977) THE BAD NEWS BEARS GO TO JAPAN (1978) My comments in the "Movie Genre of the Month" thread.

I should point out if The Last Crusade WASN'T perfect, it was pretty DAMN close.
But I agree, Raiders is the best.

THERE WILL BE BLOOD (2007)
Daniel Day-Lewis gives another jaw-dropping performance as Daniel Plainview, a ruthless oil tycoon. I didn't find the overall movie as impressive as his performance though. It was good, but didn't blow me away.
7.5/10

Run Lola Run (Tom Tykwer) -- fast, kinetic, crazy picture that makes you want to get up and run around after seeing it. Nauseating and fascinating. B.
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Steven Spielberg) -- best movie ever. A+(++[++])

Murder-Set-Pieces-2004 Absolute BS, almost nothing at all to this one. Even the uncut version to this doesn't offer much. That chainsaw to the head was nice, though, but anything with as much nudity and sleaze as this one shouldn't be this dull. Plus, we follow the killer rather than the victims, meaning it sucks even more. Even I couldn't find much to enjoy about this one. 1/10

This past month: Dreamgirls 3/4- Pretty good, but a bit long imo. Did you happen to watch that one as part of last month's "Genre of the Month" or did you watch it in May? Actually I think it was in the last week of April, but the tornado hit before I got a chance to get over here on the computer to post it. I'm not for sure though...

Running with Scissors (Ryan Murphy) -- all right adaptation of some memoirs I haven't read (reading recent things by Burroughs, he really gets on my nerves) with characters that are sometimes humanized and sometimes caricatured, though the sexuality is really vanilla (actually, absent: after one scene the two participants are still wearing their pants -- don't know how that works out) and it drags on. The screaming scene was good, though. B.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull- Sucked. Flat out. F. Nah, I'm just kidding. It was pretty decent, but it is a little long and pointless at times. The prarie dogs? Monkeys? Ray Winstone's entire existence in the Indiana Jones universe? Although a lot of cool parts and (deep down) a different direction for the Indiana Jones movies. Overall it's an entertaining film, but if this is Indy's last bow, it could've been a better one. Just sayin. B+.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES III (1993)
My comments in the "Movie Genre of the Month" thread.
INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL (2008)
My comments in REVIEW HELL. Long story short, see Frankenjohn's comments above. 7/10
EQUILIBRIUM (2002)
Another sci-fi movie about a futuristic totalitarian society where somebody breaks from the norm and rebels. Do filmmakers think that moviegoers haven't read Orwell's 1984. 1984 meets LOGAN'S RUN with a dash of THE MATRIX. Cool fighting style by Christian Bale, but that's about it.
5/10
