Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Tim Burton) -- Surronded by kids who shop at Hot Topic, I caught this this morning and it's all right, I suppose. The main story doesn't even start going until an hour in and it's really Carter to watch instead of Depp. And you know, I didn't feel the songs were as catchy as other pieces. Not Burton's fault, but man did he let that blood flow. B.
Little Children (Todd Fields) -- that was one messed up motion picture. B+.

A "hit man" double feature:
GHOST DOG: THE WAY OF THE SAMURAI (1999)
An African-American hit man (Forest Whitaker) who follows the code of the Japanese Samurai is targeted by the mob. Interesting character piece with quirky characters that moves at a leisurely pace. Not the action-fest you might expect and I found the Italian mobster characters very over the top and kind of stereotypical. However, Whitaker is excellent and his relationships with a French-speaking Haitian ice cream seller and a little girl he befriends in the park are entertaining.
7.5/10
PANIC (2000)
The always watchable William H. Macy plays a man going through a midlife crisis. He's seeing a therapist (John Ritter), is bored with his wife (Tracy Ullman), has fallen for a 23 year old (Neve Campbell) he met in the doctor's waiting room, and his father (Donald Sutherland) won't let him quit the family business, being a hit man. Sounds more interesting, and entertaining, on paper than it actually is. I found it to be just okay. The actors are all great, but the movie just didn't engage me that much.
6.5/10

The Ringer-Completely stupid, not for everyone, but still pretty funny at times. It gets the laughs, which is enough for me.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007, Jake Kasdan)
With all the praises this movie has been receiving, it should have been better than it was. I believe it was the songs that saved this movie from being reviewed poorly, because the songs were brilliant. A lot of the jokes, however, seemed forced. When they hit, they're a riot. When they miss, they're painful. They really should have toned down the stupidity. On the bright side, however, it IS the best spoof movie in years (not counting Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, which I place in a slightly different genre). I mean, it's obviously better than Date Movie and Epic Movie, and it's also better than the Scary Movies. And it's not a bad movie at all. It's just a good (not great) movie with an excellent original soundtrack. 7/10

Posted my review for Sweeney Todd just now.
National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007, Jon Turteltaub)
Did you like the first one? You'll like this one. If not, you won't. I think both of these films are better than the Da Vinci Code, in the respect that this has characters that are a lot more fun. Even if it does require a suspension of disbelief, these movies are fun to watch. 8/10

Watched on Monday:
THE HITCHER (1986)
C. Thomas Howell is driving from Chicago to San Diego, California, when he makes the mistake of picking up creepy hitchhiker, Rutger Hauer. Hauer is great as the cold-blooded stalker, but Howell is only mediocre. The story is a good idea that, for me anyway, didn't come off as terrorizing as it should've. Hitchcock could've probably made a great movie out of this concept. I also wish we would've learned anything about Rutger's character, and the payoff seemed a little anticlimactic as well. When it comes to movies about being terrorized on the highway, I prefer BREAKDOWN with Kurt Russell or even Spielberg's DUEL.

Overall I think it's pretty bland and it has a lot of stuff unexplained. Didn't care for it much at all. But, I did just see: SWEEEEEEEEEEEEENY TODD

THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND (2006)
Forest Whittaker gives a knockout performance as Ugandan President, Idi Amin, in this fictionalized account of the murderous leader.
