Start of Halloween week, so got a bunch in this week, nearly double this week: Warlock III: The End of Innocense-Average entry in the series, but does have a couple really worthwhile moments. imdb.com/title/tt0157171/usercomments-31Stagefright-Simply stated, one of the best slashers around and in the Top 5 of my favorites all-time, with so much to love about it. imdb.com/title/tt0092576/usercomments-64Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice-Cheesy at times, but it's fun moments, when they pop up, make it watchable. imdb.com/title/tt0106557/usercomments-63The Phantom of the Opera-Really manages to get a lot out of it's slasher set-pieces, and gory enough, but way too unfaithful to the story. imdb.com/title/tt0098090/usercomments-70Urban Legends III: Bloody Mary-Really entertaining and creepy at times, but plagued by a couple of mild flaws. imdb.com/title/tt0451957/usercomments-45The Dark-Gets some solid points for doing something new, but far too often resorts to cliches to get it's point across. imdb.com/title/tt0411267/usercomments-70Eyes Without a Face-Really overrated art-house drama, with only a brilliant surgery scene to get excited about. imdb.com/title/tt0053459/usercomments-78Taste of Fear-Highly underrated Hammer effort that has some really creepy moments and a couple really annoying parts. imdb.com/title/tt0055505/usercomments-23Berserk!-An early slasher candidate, and does them well, but merely bogged down by repetitive circus performances. imdb.com/title/tt0061398/usercomments-32Trog-Really lame and weak, and really doesn't have a whole lot going for it beyond a few mild positives. imdb.com/title/tt0066492/usercomments-49The Devil Doll-Really impressive effort with some spectacular special effects and a few twists onto a predicatable enough affair. imdb.com/title/tt0027521/usercomments-27The Flesh-Eaters-Good cheesy monster fun, even though there's a point where it gets too cheesy for it's own good. imdb.com/title/tt0058101/usercomments-14

BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN (1925)
Silent classic about sailors abouard a battleship, who revolted against the ship's officers and the poor conditions they were forced to endure. Technically, this movie was very advanced in it's day and is still very influential. The massacre on the city steps is one of the most iconic moments in movies and was "borrowed" by DePalma for his movie, THE UNTOUCHABLES.
6/10
30 DAYS OF NIGHT (2007)
Let's face it, nothing much is left that can be done with this genre that can be considered truly original, but at least they're in a new location this time. A small Alaskan town that is in complete darkness for 30 days every year is invaded by a gang of bloodthirsty vampires who don't have to worry about going into hiding in the morning for fear of the sun destroying them. Features some fairly creepy vampires who speak their own language and spill plenty of blood. Pretty good vampire flick.
7.5/10

Wicked Little Things 2/4- One of the After Dark Horrorfest...not bad
Riding The Bullet 3/4- Another King adaptation directed by Mick Garris, I actually liked this one A LOT more than I thought I would (& bought the cheap dvd today), but nowhere near as good as The Stand, of course.

THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES (1971)
Revenge movie with Vincent Price as a madman who is murdering the surgeons he blames for the death of his wife, one by one. The gimmick is that he's using the 9 Biblical plagues, as his guide, ie: locusts, frogs, etc. Kind of an updated PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, as Price's character is disfigured and plays the organ and there is a scene that takes place at a masquerade party. It was okay, but didn't knock me out, for such a cult classic.
6/10
CLUB DREAD (2004)
From Broken Lizard (SUPERTROOPERS & BEERFEST) comes this spoof of slasher movies. I enjoyed Bill Paxton as a Jimmy Buffet-like character, but other than that, this was pretty terrible. Not funny or scary = a waste of time.
2/10

Wings of Desire (1987, Wim Wenders)
I didn't know City of Angels was a remake until about halfway into this movie. And this one was way better. Pissed me off a lot less. Bruno Ganz and Peter Falk were fantastic. 8/10
Witness (1993, Peter Weir)
A well-written thriller with one of Harrison Ford's finest performances. 8/10
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993, Henry Selick - In 3-D)
One of my all-time favorites in 3-D. Disney did a fine job with it, too. 10/10
Michael Clayton (2007, Tony Gilroy)
Complicated to the point of frustration. By the end of the first hour, I was starting to get restless. I can only go so long without knowing what's going on. The rewarding part of all this is that by the time you find out what's going on (everything becomes clear in the second half), you realize every scene in the film had a point. And I actually ended up liking the film because of that. Loved the cast in this one, too. 8/10

I caught this over the weekend too and liked it a lot better than I thought I would. Had some "jump" moments that actually got me too. Very gory film but a great premise.
7/10 for me.
I also saw on DVD Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle - absolutely ridiculous movie that I was in the mood for. A lot of laughs - but you def have to be in the right mindset.

SERPICO (1973)
Al Pacino plays Frank Serpico, in this true story about an honest young cop in New York City who, unlike a lot of the cops he worked with at the time, refused to take bribes to "look the other way". This put him at constant odds with his fellow cops as they felt they couldn't trust him. Even though for me, this isn't in the same league as DOG DAY AFTERNOON or THE GODFATHER movies, it's still a Pacino film that's well worth watching, especially for his performance which is one of his best.
7.5/10

The Darjeeling Limited (Wes Anderson) -- Anderson doesn't really try anything new, but it's still a good, funny movie anyway. Wonderfully cast, wonderfully shot, and pretty hilarious. A-.
