Personally, I hated Near Dark. I thought it was terrible. Lame plot, bad acting, weak atmosphere. All-around lamefest.

Watched Mission Impossible 3 on DVD. Excellent effects, tight story, a very good "popcorn flick" I completely agree. Needlessly maligned.

Robin Hood (1973)
Well, it's one of MY favorite Disney flicks, and that's not about to change. It's got a charm to it, great music, great action sequences (for a cartoon made in the 70's)... even if the sound mixing is dated, I mean... that adds to the movie's charm in my opinion. Oo-de-laly, Oo-de-laly, golly what a day... 10/10

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) (HD DVD) HD Video - 9/10 HD Audio Dolby Digital Plus - 10/10 The noise is defintely not as bad or as consistent enough to be distracting but it is there. In fact most I spotted during close-up shots of Kate & Jim but there isn't enough of those shots during the film to cause a stir over. A few scenes do appear to look flat or soft, but I think it is mostly intentional. No perfect 10 because of this. Didn't see much grain either. Color is excellent, much better than the HD broadcast & overall a much more stable image too. I have nothing negative to say about the audio. For a dialog driven flick, vocals are clear, crisp & loud with no distortion. Background noise never interfere's or washes away dialog. Not a demo disc to show off HD imo, but if your a fan, this is defintely 1 title you have to have in your collection. Awesome flick! Focus Features is my fav independant studio & this title ranks with the best of their catalog.

THE HARD WAY (1991)
Action/comedy starring Michael J. Fox as a movie star and James Woods as a tough New York cop. The actor is preparing for an upcoming film role so he decides to follow the cop around as research. Of course their personalities and lifestyles clash. Sounds pretty good on paper and it has two likeable stars, but in reality, I found it pretty boring, cliché and not very funny. A high concept film where pretty much everything on screen falls flat.
4/10

Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) - Excellent, if just a little dated. I was a little bothered by the idea that American actors were playing British sailors. Clark Gable was great and all, but couldn't they at least FAKE a British accent back then? Other than that, great flick. 8/10

That one's pretty good. Speaking of Mel Gibson, just watched: THE RIVER (1984) A farming couple (Gibson & Sissy Spacek) and their kids face many hardships including, storms, bank foreclosure, injury, etc, in this depressing movie. But wait, it's not just depressing, it's also a story of how man can overcome everything thrown in his path. Let's just say the corn in this film isn't only growing on their farm. 5/10

Lucky You
I liked it. While it IS Curtis Hanson's weakest film (let's face it, the man made L.A. Confidential, and I don't think he's ever gonna outdo that one), it definitely has a lot going for it. Eric Bana gives a nice, understated performance, whereas Robert Duvall plays a likeable asshole. In fact, that may be the film's weakness. I'm not sure if Hanson and Roth wanted us to hate Robert Duvall's character or not, but I found him rather likeable - in spite of his past. It's a good drama with good use of irony. Not one of the best films this year, but it's at least good. 7/10

28 Days Later... (Danny Boyle) -- in an effort to further advertise the new movie, "28 Weeks Later" F/X aired this with all sorts of promotional stuff for the latter film. I watched most of the original, which I do like a lot, probably because Danny Boyle is a great director, Cillian Murhpy's one of the best actors ever, and the intensity's all over the place, especially when it goes from the infected being the villains to the military. Saying something much? On TV they edited the curse words but the blood still flew as vividly as I remember it from the uncut version. B+.

Hairspray (John Waters) -- probably the most accessible of Waters' films, but that doesn't stop it from being as dark and twisted as some of his other stuff, it's just twisted in a different way. Everyone's so happy and beaming and campy then there's exploding beehive hairdo's. Great dances though! B+.
