Chronos (1985) (HD DVD)
HD Video - 8/10 HD Audio Dolby Digital Plus - 9/10 HD Audio dts - 9/10
This was supposed to be the first ever HD DVD release but it got delayed until last December. Not quite the IMAX HD show off disc I was hoping for. Sound is great though & the feature shows some cool places around the globe.

All the King's Men (2006)
It's flawed, very far from my top ten of the year. But damn, the critics were WAY too rough on this movie. I mean, it's better than mediocre, yet they treated it like it was Gigli. What was it? Did we just expect more from the writer of Schindler's List and a cast like that? Why wouldn't we, right? It's below what all of them could do, but they certainly could have done much worse. B

Must be "Slightly-above-average Movie Night".
NANNY McPHEE (2005)
Emma Thompson is fine in the lead role, and the film is well made, but there wasn't really one surprise in the whole thing. Kind of felt like MARY POPPINS meets HARRY POTTER with a dash of WILLY WONKA. It's a great film if you've never seen any of those others.
6/10
JARHEAD (2005)
Suffers from the same things I just criticized NANNY McPHEE for, ie: it's well acted and technically well made, but it just feels like I've seen it all before. Hearing dialogue from FULL METAL JACKET spoken by a character in this film, and the fact that the soldiers in the movie watch war films like APOCALYPSE NOW and THE DEER HUNTER, while it might be realistic, adds even more to the feeling of been there done that, and makes me think, "Oh yeah, all those films are better than this one."
6/10

Agree about Jarhead.
Just saw: Breaking And Entering - and liked it more than I thought I would. Great performances all around, wonderful photography and a very emotional ending.

Nacho Libre -- an improvement of "Napolean Dynamite" but still...probably the weakest of Black's movies. There are some moments, but usually it's just dumbed down Wes Anderson once again. C+.

Curse of the Golden Flower- I never thought I'd say this of a Zhang Yimou film, but this blew. Yeah, it's pretty, but it looked so fake at some parts and the fight scenes are bloody as hell. As for the plot, can you say soap opera? F.
So I walked out and saw a better film.
Pan's Labyrinth- Like said above it's good, but not great. I thought "The Devil's Backbone" was a better film. More twists, creepier, and I liked the plot better. Great fantasy film though, one that deserves its Oscar nominations. However, this really IS a children's fantasy tale, one that we'd see in a Grimm bros. collection, but what makes it adult is the drama/war scenes which would have a child lost in confusion and really wouldn't be appropriate for them either. B+.

X-MEN 3: THE LAST STAND
Still don't get all the hate, but whatever. On a second viewing, I still think it was a fine entry in the series. Not perfect, but then I didn't think parts 1 & 2 were either. I've also got to mention that Kelsey Grammer was a welcome addition to the cast of characters as Hank McCoy/Beast. Even with his limited time on screen, he really brought some depth to a character that easily could've been played for laughs.
8/10

Orgazmo - Hilarious Parker/Stone flick, but my least favorite of their movies. Compared to Cannibal, South Park and Team America, (and Baseketball, which was a Zucker movie) it falls a little short. But still, it's a funny movie and definitely worth a look... if only for that theme song. NOW YOU'RE A MAN! A MAN, MAN, MAN... B
Dawn of the Dead (2004) - The best of the modern horror movie remakes. I know, that's not saying much, but I really enjoyed it. It's a blast to watch. A-
