I'm even more glad we didn't lose anything.
We don't have insurance.

Does anyone here know anything about harddrive recovery?
Our external drive fucking died on us after a whopping four months of use. It's got all my art and all our pictures on it. We'd been meaning to burn all that stuff to DVD's and the like, but haven't got to it yet. After all, who just expects a harddrive to suddenly die on you after only a couple months?

So, in August, I posted in here that a big chunk of my Apartment building was totally gutted by fire.
Well, you won't believe this.
Saturday, we were ablaze again. This time, fire gutted a smaller section next to the section that was burned up in August. Once again, we were unaffected by it, but we ran into a chick who was just moving in that day, and her apartment was one of the ones engulfed. Also, the temperature here was dropping rapidly all day Saturday. The days started out at around 24 degrees (F), but by the afternoon, when the fire was raging, it was down to about zero, and overnight we dropped off to anywhere from 10 to 18 below, with a minus 30 windchill.
So, imagine that.
Man, I really wish it was easier to move out of our shithole apartment building. Two fires in six months. Fucking lame. Just because we were lucky twice doesn't necessarily mean we'd survive a third fire. I joked that, "the fires are gradually moving north through the building, pretty soon they're going to catch us." We live at the way north end of a C-shaped building with the open part facing East. The south part has burned twice now.

Wow, that sucks something fierce, man. Hope you and your family, as well as you're fellow apartment dwellers are all safe and warm right now.

Dude! Not that you need me to tell you, but damn does that suck. What the hell is causing these fires?? I hope you at least have renter's insurance.

We didn't have money for renter's insurance, and now, after two fires, it might be even more costly.
The first fire was attributed to an electrical problem: An air conditioner burst into flames. This one is blamed on a cigarette.
But we're all safe and fine so far. Which is good, because we have over 300 CD's, 300 DVD's, a hundred videos, and over 150 video games over 9 systems. Plus, all my Transformers, and all our books. We have a lot of money collected together in various forms of stuff.

Next up for my horrible apartment building: My wife and I have heard some things and will be readying ourselves to check the place for that wonderful deadly black mold, which supposedly hangs around our building, except in the parts that burned down.
If we find any mold, there may be a lawsuit or legal action on the horizon.

I haven't been on here in about a month because a tornado hit the town that I live in and it's taken this long to get all the phone and internet lines back up and running again. But anyway...it was a very scary experience and I NEVER want to go through something like that again. But at least we're still alive and well and have homes to live in! And unfortunately tornados are just a part of living in Arkansas...

Holy crap, LDG! I was starting to think you'd abandoned us. Sorry to hear about the tornado, but glad to hear you're okay and that everything is relatively back to normal. Welcome back!

I'd noticed your name not popping up in the Last Visited Users section on the front page and had gotten worried as well. Glad to hear you safe and secure, and welcome back as well.

Goodness; glad you're all right.
This thread should, however, be renamed, terrible things that happened to me.

No, I didn't abandon the board, not by choice anyway. But thanks for thinking about me and slowly but surely things are getting back to normal. Now instead of hearing chainsaws going all the time, now it's hammers! Here are a couple of links to a couple of videos of the damage. I think my sis-in-law has uploaded some of the pics that's she took so I'll post them when I get them uploaded to my Photobucket page. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIc-IavtBZIwww.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0XqFwL8us4
