The Nativity Story -- ehhhhh. I'm writing up a review so I'll just give the grade. A good solid... C-. I'm also writing up something for "Happy Feet" and maybe "Babel". Bring them in. We need some more reviews for our contest, and we'd love to have them in it. For me: The Fear: Resurrection-Really slow slasher with a really impressive villain. www.imdb.com/title/tt0184463/usercomments-23Out for Blood-Special effects look nice, but slow and boring vampire saga. www.imdb.com/title/tt0375562/usercomments-19

The Pursuit of Happyness
I was a little disappointed by it. I expected to like it more than I did. Don't get me wrong, Will Smith and his son were absolutely perfect, but when it came to how crappy his life was, they overdid it. I mean, did we have to see EVERY night in his horrible life? They could have easily shaved off a good 20 minutes and it would have made a better movie. Instead of feeling inspired, I felt depressed by how crappy his life was. Again, great job by Will Smith and his son, but more of it should have found itself on the cutting room floor, or at least as a deleted scene on the DVD. B-/C+

I also watched on DVD last night Talk To Her. 9/10 You liked it that much, huh? I must say that while wathcing it I was in turns entertained, amused and disgusted, so my final grade would be closer to 5/10, perhaps. Interesting but uneven. And sick. My favourite Almodovar film is still Live Flesh.

My favorite is Live Flesh too - it is the first Almodovar film I saw so it was memorable.

Death of a President- Some parts of this movie look like something from the History Channel, others look fake. Overall, the movie is pretty believable and good. B+.

The Queen
Slow pace, but nothing I couldn't handle. Very good film, and I'm putting my money on Helen Mirren to win the Oscar this year. A-

RICHARD PRYOR: LIVE IN CONCERT (1979)
The stand-up master at the height of his career and fame. I first saw this as a kid in the very early 80's. My friends and I watched it on video several times, and for years after we were still quoting lines from it. Even watching it last night, after many, many years of not having seen it, I found myself still remembering a lot of the bits and punchlines. Definitely made an impression on me as a kid that remains to this day.
9/10

After watching it I remembered going to a party where there was a Japanese exchange student who everyone forced to watch UHF. At the end he said "Americans are so weird, I don't understand this movie." Well, I feel the same way about Suicide Club. It was weird and I didn't "get it" at all. I think it's a cultural/language barrier thing. The subtitles were horrendous too - at one point a student said "Let's all get drunk and commit an act of fornication!" Somehow I don't think that's really what he said. 1/10

City of the Dead (1960)-Insanely creepy and atmospheric witch-tale, and an absolutely thrilling conclusion. imdb.com/title/tt0053719/usercomments-74Also watched Maximum Overdrive to upgrade it from a TNT version to a TMC version.

Rocky Balboa- This is hands down the best Rocky film since the original. It isn't rushed and really put a heart into Rocky, the biggest heart I've seen in him since the original. At the end I almost actually cried it's so powerful. The people just love him and so did my audience. Burt Young also did fantastic as Paule, and with Rocky stole the show. The big fight was actually well done, I thought that it looked very real (and it was real) and cleverly edited. Sad they never played Eye Of The Tiger though. Oh well. A-.
On a side note, one of the trailers accompanying Rocky Balboa was for Blood and Chocolate. The trailer was ridiculous enough that when the announcer of the trailer said "Blood......and Chocolate" that my audience burst into laughter.

Band Camp was TORTURE to watch. I figured Naked Mile was probably just as bad. I will refuse under any circumstance to watch it based on your review. Well, I haven't seen Band Camp but The Naked Mile had its moments - and from what I see it's generally perceived as much superior to the previous Pie film. The first half of Mile includes some hilarious scenes - The Cumshot Death and The Date Crap - but I have to agree that the second half is just going through the motions in order to get to the no surprises-ending.
