Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) - My least favorite Kevin Smith movie because it's the one that takes itself least seriously. Still, hillarious. Good Will Hunting 2 has to be one of the funniest scenes ever. B+ "It's hunting season."

Galaxy Quest (1999) - What's this? A GOOD Tim Allen movie? How did THAT happen? This was a smart, funny satire on Star Trek and hardcore trekkies. Also a fun adventure movie. A- What about the Toy Storys? And I think, for a kids movie, the first Santa Clause is pretty good. AND I like Big Trouble, but I think you can attribute that more to Dave Barry (though the movie's nowhere near as funny as the book). PulseThis was genuinely creepy. I mean that. Aside from a few flaws and even a major inconsistency at the end, this was actually a pretty solid Horror movie. Could have done without the color scheme, but my friends and I had a good time watching it, and I may even have a little trouble sleeping tonight. Story: 8/10 Acting: 7/10 Screenwriting: 14/20 Direction: 14/20 71% Isn't that the one with those guys that look strinkingly familiar to Lord Voldemort? I just watched Brick again...this time with my little brother who loved it.

And yes, I liked the first (and to a much lesser exten, second) Santa Clause. I also haven't seen Big Trouble. Kinda forgot about those. Movies like Christmas with the Kranks and the Shaggy Dog were what I was referring to. PulseThis was genuinely creepy. I mean that. And the Descent is the one with those guys that look strikingly familiar to Gollum.

Barnyard - The weakest animated film I've seen all year, but it's not without its moments. The voice actors are the main draw for this movie (especially the incredible Sam Elliott), as well as the animated landscapes (although the animal animations were terrible. Male cows are BULLS. And they don't have udders). It's flawed, but when it works, it works.
"That's called, 'BOY TIPPING!' HA! HA! HA!"

V FOR VENDETTA (2006)
Meh. It's way too long and not nearly as deep as it would like you to believe it is. V is "everyman" and the government is not to be trusted. Now there's a revelation. I was pretty bored and dozed off several times.
4.5/10

I was pretty bored and dozed off several times. 4.5/10 As a political statement, it was way too preachy. As a sci-fi, though, I thought it was fantastic. Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman gave some great performances. Who Framed Roger Rabbit - One of the most intelligent comedies ever made. I loved it as a kid, and I love it even more now. A+

I guess I've seen way too much sci-fi to have considered this fantastic. Frankly, I thought the story/setting were a bit too close to "1984" for comfort. As soon as I saw John Hurt's face being projected on a big screen, it instinctively made me think about, "Big Brother is watching." I'll give you that Weaving was fine, but Portman lost her accent several times. Why not just cast a young British actress? I'm sure there are one or two who would've fit the bill. Anyway, glad you liked it and I know I'm in the minority, but it just didn't do much for me.

GINGER SNAPS (2000)
Pretty cool teen horror/werewolf flick. Not in the same league as THE HOWLING, but not bad. The "puberty is a curse" theme, was already done in CARRIE, and a couple of times I thought it veered a little too closely to BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER territory, but overall, I was entertained. The gore and the werewolf effects were well done for a low budget movie.
7/10

The gore and the werewolf effects were well done for a low budget movie. 7/10 I feel the exact same way about it. The "puberty" angle also destroys it for me, it's just too heavy-handed for my tastes. Good movie, but it's not the modern-day challenge to the classics everyone thinks it is. I think I gave it an 8 on IMDb or something like that. Frankenstein Reborn-Proof of the old saying, "If you can't be the best, be the goriest." www.imdb.com/title/tt0460800/usercomments-14Mansquito-Entertaining Sci-Fi Creature Feature, but too in love with it's cliches to rise above. www.imdb.com/title/tt0430334/usercomments-28

Garden State - This blew me away the first time I saw it, and it didn't lose any of its power this time around. Zach Braff is a genius. A+
