Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else here has watched the first two episodes of the new ABC series "LOST"? It's from “Alias” creator J.J. Abrams and he wrote and directed the pilot. I don't watch too many new series, but the ads for this one intrigued me, so I checked it out. And I gotta say, so far it's great! It's about the 48 or so survivors of a plane crash on a "seemingly" deserted island. When the show opens, they've already crashed and I thought 'Damn! We've been deprived of some cool crash sequence!', but it soon became apparent that the crash scene is shown in flashback glimpses from the point of view of the various passengers, which is also how we learn little bits & pieces of the character's personalities and their secrets. Besides the survivors, there seems to be something else on the island and it seems to be massive, as the only glimpse we've gotten so far is trees in the horizon getting knocked over. Is it dinosaurs? Is it King Kong? Is it a construction crew clearing a lot for a strip mall? Don't know yet. The characters seem like the "typical" group you would expect in a series like this, ie: the young good hearted doctor, the spoiled teenage girl, the surly asshole, the pregnant girl, the father & son who don't quite bond, the overweight twenty-something outcast guy, etc. but all the actors are actually pretty good and I found myself entertained, considering the many chances for cliches & stereotypes. They split the two hour pilot into two seperate 1 hour episodes, but they're going to rerun the two episodes back-to-back this Saturday as one movie for anyone who missed it and wants to give it a shot. The whole thing may end up being like an adult version of the old Saturday morning series, "LAND OF THE LOST", or something else entirely. I recommend it. So far.

I really liked this show too. It's a alittle bit fantasy, a little bit sci-fi, a little drama. I think the pacing and directing is really great for a TV show. Of course they also spent like 12 million on the pilot episode, so it does look gorgeous.
So I second your recommendation Heineken!

It's a hit!
After two airings, the new castaway drama from Alias creator J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof has become one of the highest-rated new shows of the fall television season, the Reuters news service reported. In its second week, the show about plane-crash survivors marooned on a mysterious tropical island drew 17 million viewers, easily dominating its 8 o'clock hour and ranking as the most watched show all night after CSI: NY, the news service reported. It was number one among teens and men aged 18-49.
The second airing of Lost retained 91 percent of the 18.7 million viewers who tuned in to the show's premiere last week and 96 percent of its debut 18-49 audience, the news service reported. Last week's Lost premiere was the first ABC drama to enter the Nielsen top 10 in 18-49 ratings since The Practice in 2001. Lost airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

It sounds great and it's nowhere near Polish tv. Yeah, guys - keep on talking about intriguing tv stuff that I can't get around here, and I'll start asking each one of you to tape something for me.

Yeah, guys - keep on talking about intriguing tv stuff that I can't get around here, and I'll start asking each one of you to tape something for me. I'd be happy to tape stuff for you Bart, but don't you guys use the PAL system, or whatever it's called? Meaning, would you be able to watch VHS tapes from America??

Last night's episode was my favorite yet (10/13). It's rare where I can watch something on TV and be shocked by the ending. This show is better than most movies I've seen lately!

I'll wait for the DvD release so I can see this show uncut. Just the fact that J.J. Abrams created this show, I'm in. Alias is awesome! I did catch a bit of the pilot, & from what I saw, Lost did look interesting. For folks lucky to have an HDTV, ABC is airing the show on one of its high-def channels. I'm afraid if I watch the show on HD, than buy the DvD version, I'll be thinking to myself, boy this dvd transfer is crap.

I agree with all your points, Phoenix. ;D This show is definitely keeping my interest. Each episode answers more questions, as we learn a little more about the characters, but it also raises more questions. What was up with that guy dressed in black that the doctor kept seeing?? And what is that huge creature that keeps tearing up trees?? I think they're going to have to reveal it soon. I can't stand the suspense!

At this point, I can't even speculate what is going to happen...and more importantly I don't want to. I'm having so much fun just watching and seeing what unfolds that I'd prefer not to predict anything. I do want those questions you posed answered though!!!!!!!!!!!

PAL is our most popular system but most TV's also have NTSC playback these days; mine sure has it, anyway. And from what you're saying here - this show sounds more than interesting.

MAJOR SPOILERS!!!!If you haven't watched this show, but don't want anything spoiled in case you're going to catch the reruns, or like Termination, will probably buy the DVDs blind, stop reading this thread!! You've been warned! For those of you who do watch: Okay guys, so has being on the island somehow revived Jack's father's body, or was that a ghost he was seeing? And if it's a ghost, what happened to the actual body? Was he not allowed to bring it on the plane after all? The reason I ask if maybe he's come back to life is because there seems to be something magical on the island, ie: Polar bear, Locke can suddenly walk after years in a wheelchair, and remember, the pregnant girl's baby didn't move for several hours after they crashed, then suddenly she could feel it moving again. Could it have died in the plane crash and then come back to life? Of course that doesn't explain all the other people who were killed in the crash and didn't come back to life. How come the group that killed the polar bear never told the rest of the survivors about it?? Do you think the Asian couple can actually speak English, but for whatever reason they're choosing not to?? So many questions!! The mystery, the intrigue, the drama! I am really digging this show.

SPOILER ALERT! Here are my thoughts so far from the episode on 10/20:
I don't know about Jack's father. I would say from a medical standpoint it was all hallucinations but more than likely I think it's just a ghost? Not sure about the body - too many unanswered questions there. Although that weird Ghost Dad of his is helping him out - whenever he follows him things are found (Locke, fresh water).
I've read some of the rumors online, one being that all the survivors are dead and in purgatory - but that really doesn't make much sense to me as one guy died in pure agony a few episodes ago. I mean can you have horrible pain in purgatory? I don't think so. But I'm not Catholic, and all I know about purgatory is what I read in Waiting for Godot.
I agree there is something magical on the island, but I think it is more like a Bermuda Triangle thing going on - I don't want to get too crazy in my theories, but if they are incorperating comic book lore, it may be some kind of alternate universe?
As for the Polar Bear - I think the only reason they didn't tell the others is b/c they didn't want to cause a freak out? Especially considering they were just going to be saved in a few days (not going to happen of course...).
And that Korean couple...looking forward for their flashback. I feel like they can speak English but I'm not sure why they are hiding it? I'm sure that answer will be solved sooner than others.
This is my favorite TV show now. It's been awhile since I've had one I HAD to watch.

I believe they are currently rerunning the previous Wednesday episode again on Saturday, so if you miss it, you get a second chance to catch it. Which means it may be on again tonight. If you miss it again, let us know. I'm sure either Phoenix or I, can fill you in. ;D
