Here's my 2 quarters worth on Brokeback Mountain.
I didn't know how explicit the (daring to go there) film would be. Not knowing much about the story going in, with the exception of 2 homosexuals who the main actors portrayed + a few trailers + Ang Lee directing, I thought the film would of had more story & less relationship between Heath Ledger & Jake Gyllenhaal. I really enjoyed Ledger's acting throughout the film. Any doubts/thoughts I had prior about his acting talent being less than par went out the window after seeing this film. Gyllenhaal was also good, but I've seen him in other films & in this one, he did not exceed his talent (in my opinion) when I compare this film to others he has done. The pace of the story was a tad slow & the music didn't help or hurt the picture. I didn't care to see nor wanted to see both actors kissing, being nude, or humpbacking. I thought the film could have told the same story & have the same effect on its audience without those scenes, but than again, I guess the picture wouldn't have been as controversial. What was a nice surprise was how the film presented its timeline. As the 2 characters grow up, so do their kids & relationships with their wives.. that kept me more interested with the story in general. I questioned, in interest, how the film would end instead of questioning, when will this picture end.
