With Waters' latest movie, A DIRTY SHAME, hitting theaters, I thought it was the perfect time to have a John Waters' movies poll on this board. I picked HAIRSPRAY as my favorite. Though I also enjoyed CRY-BABY & SERIAL MOM. Not sure that I want to actually see PINK FLAMINGOS. Though curiosity will probably eventually get the best of me.

I picked Hairspray as well, although I enjoyed Pecker. It had a lot of scenes of Baltimore where I lived as a small kid. Plus I love C. Ricci. Also read in Fangoria magazine that J.Waters is going to play a small part in Seed of Chucky. He's a longtime fan of horror.

He's pretty much a longtime fan of every genre. Do you know that he goes to see almost every movie that's released in theaters and he almost never rents movies?

You're right about him being a fan of every genre. My grandfather still lives in downtown Baltimore and occasionally he'll see him at the Senator theatre. I have never met him, but I hear stories through him because he always goes up to Waters to chat.

I was browsing IMDB ( I'm avoiding work today) and I saw the "Your Fav J.Waters Movie" poll and you know 48% of people that answered it said "I'm not a fan of John Waters movies." Not that that is scientific or anything, but I was still surprised.

I was very surprised by that as well. I opted to omit that choice from the poll over here. I figure if you don't like him then don't vote. Lots of other polls over here to vote on. ;D

I voted for Serial Mom 'cause it's the only Waters movie I enjoyed from the beginning to the end. The main problem in my case is that I started with those weird movies of his a little too early - in my pre-teens and teens! - and I couldn't accept what the guy was trying to achieve there. Gotta rewatch some of the titles in the poll.

Kathleen Turner was great in SERIAL MOM!! Unfortunately, it was probably one of her last good roles.

It probably was, yes. But pre-Scream Matthew Lillard was good there, too, as her son.

My wife made me watch Pink Flamingos. I'll never get those horrible seared images out of my head. Bizarre.

Is your wife a Waters fan then, Quorthon? A brave girl, definitely... She loves John Waters. My Mom managed to find her the John Waters book: A Tasteful Book About Bad Taste. I think that's what it's called. That Simpsons episode with him in it is probably her favorite and the most convincing reason for her to go to Seed of Chucky with me was because Waters was in it. I'm not sure which is worse, her love of John Waters or my enjoyment of Troma...

I'm not sure which is worse, her love of John Waters or my enjoyment of Troma... Tough choice indeed! ;D By the way, I watched Pink Flamingos a month or so ago and gotta say again that though it obviously is a brave and shocking piece of underground cinema (say hello to the unexpected blow job scene!) I can't really admit to it being one of my all time favourites.
