Pink Flamingos is, by far, my favorite Waters film. It's the film that gave him his notoriety! It has so many creepy moments that you would never expect to see in a film that it's an instant classic.

Oh, tough poll! I chose Polyester though. I started watching John Waters movies very early too, and was hooked just because they were so demented! But Polyester is my all time favorite John Waters movie. Divine as Francine Fishpaw, the housewife with the over active sense of smell, Mink Stole as the cornrowed hussy that her husband fools around with, her son with a foot stomping fetish! When the movie was in theaters, they handed out scratch and sniff cards to go along with what Francine Fishpaw was smelling! It's just some twisted shit man.
I've wanted to show my husband Female Trouble and Pink Flamingos but I'm just not sure he's ready...

John Waters is easily one of my favorite underground filmmakers. I love Nick Zedd and Richard Kern, but John Waters has to be the tops for me. "Female Trouble" (1974) is probably favorite-of-all (though "A Dirty Shame" is pretty damned-good!), because it is just SO. It's high-octane Waters, and pretty cynical in the humor, my kind of sick-humor. It's so defiant, which is usually when he's at-this-best. And how can you beat the title-song? It flys-in-the-face of polite-society, which is what one should do at least once-a-day. :0) OK, I do it serveral-times-more, but that's me. It IS hard to pick a favorite for John Waters, I agree.

Agreed More, it is full of sick humour, it is deranged, cynical and so non-politically correct and so deviant. How not to love such an unusual flick. I love the Bizarre (if it's well done like this) Unfortunately I saw only Pink Flamingos.

I don't think Serial Mom gets the respect it deserves, possibly because it's not quite as depraved as Waters' other films. But Kathleen Turner is total genius, terrifying. Kind of like a cross between Ted Bundy and that redhead of of Desperate Housewives. Plus, hearing her tell the juror that just cleared her "You can't wear white after Labour Day!" before beating her to death with a phone just does it for me.
