I'm all for parodys and spoofs on Youtube, but that was kind of lame. Funny idea, but not really put together that well.
In other comic book-to-film news:
From Dark Horizons: Avi Arad told the trades that "The first reaction, which we should discard, is here comes 'X-Men 4'. We're working on 'Wolverine,' which is definitely a continuation, and we have a very interesting script about a young Magneto." Will Fox change their tune and pressure him for a fourth? Seems unlikely due to the expense involved. In many ways it now seems that "Wolverine" will serve as the unofficial fourth film sometime either in 2008 or 2009.
From rottentomatoes: Rachel McAdams to Snag Katie Holmes' "Knight" Work?
Scott Weinberg writes: "Ask just about anyone who loved "Batman Begins" what they thought the flick's "weak spot" was, and I bet you money they'd say "Well, Katie Holmes, obviously. Her character, partially, but mainly just her blank stare and entirely unconvincing performance. Why do you ask?"
And then you could answer, "Well, not only is she (apparently) not returning for the sequel, but in her place we might get the bubbly ultra-hottie known as Rachel McAdams."
It's all rumor and conjecture at this point, but JoBlo and Batman-on-Film.com are reporting that, yes, the "Wedding Crashers" cutie is in talks to play the role of Batman's (unimportant) girlfriend in "The Dark Knight." Word is that it's a pretty slim role this time around, which is fine by me, and also that Ms. McAdams would probably enjoy sticking to roles a little on the meatier side, but there you have it: Katie Holmes out, Rachel McAdams (maybe and allegedly) in.

Joss Whedon explains his WONDER WOMAN departure. From Whedonesque.com:
SATIN TIGHTS NO LONGER. Joss will not be fighting for our rights after all.
You (hopefully) heard it here first: I'm no longer slated to make Wonder Woman. What? But how? My chest... so tight! Okay, stay calm and I'll explain as best I can. It's pretty complicated, so bear with me. I had a take on the film that, well, nobody liked. Hey, not that complicated.
Let me stress first that everybody at the studio and Silver Pictures were cool and professional. We just saw different movies, and at the price range this kind of movie hangs in, that's never gonna work. Non-sympatico. It happens all the time. I don't think any of us expected it to this time, but it did. Everybody knows how long I was taking, what a struggle that script was, and though I felt good about what I was coming up with, it was never gonna be a simple slam-dunk. I like to think it rolled around the rim a little bit, but others may have differing views.
The worst thing that can happen in this scenario is that the studio just keeps hammering out changes and the writer falls into a horrible limbo of development. These guys had the clarity and grace to skip that part. So I'm a free man.

If we're gonna do that, we should definitely wait until the summer season, when a few of those films have been released. Also... Pathfinder's a comic book?

Just like Sin City, Road to Perdition, From Hell...

Spider-Man 4 is beginning to look a little shaky - director Sam Raimi is looking to tackle literary epic The Hobbit. The moviemaker, who is the brains behind all three Spider-Man movies, has revealed he's in the running to replace Peter Jackson as the director of the Lord Of The Rings prequel. And, if he does head to Middle Earth, actress Kirsten Dunst insists she definitely won't be back for a fourth Spider-Man. In an exclusive interview with EW.com, Raimi says, "Peter Jackson might be the best filmmaker on the planet right now... First and foremost, those (Lord of The Rings films) are Peter Jackson and (New Line studio boss) Bob Shaye's films. If Peter didn't want to do it, and Bob wanted me to do it - and they were both OK with me picking up the reigns - that would be great. I love the book. It's maybe a more kid-friendly story than the others." Dunst, who was in Tokyo, Japan last night for the Spider-Man 3 world premiere, insists she can't imagine returning for a fourth film without Raimi. She explains, "It's disrespectful to the whole team, I think, to do that. And audiences aren't stupid. It'd be a big flop without me, Tobey Maguire or Sam. That would really not be the smartest move."
I think it's kind of funny that Dunst thinks a Spider-Man film without her would be a big flop. What an ego.

At least she brought Tobey and Sam into the equation. And yes, without the two of them, it would fail. Maybe not on opening weekend, but it won't maintain its strength, and word of mouth will shoot it down.

I think she's saying that she's so much apart of Spider-Man now, along with Maguire and stuff that to change it suddenly on the audience...people just wouldn't like that.
Of course...they did do it three times already (four maybe) with Batman, so....

I agree that if Raimi or Maguire decided to not do any more sequels it might affect the series, but I think Dunst is fairly replaceable in this franchise. It definitely wouldn't affect my enjoyment of the Spidey movies if she decided to not return. Based on the comics, she's never been the perfect Mary Jane Watson anyway. And yes, actors are replaced all the time in other series, Batman & James Bond come immediately to mind, and those are much more important characters than Mary Jane.

A couple of upcoming comic book film tidbits:
Edward Norton has signed on to play Bruce Banner in the next HULK movie.
Laurence Fishburne is performing the voice of the Silver Surfer in FANTASTIC FOUR 2.

Laurence Fishburne is performing the voice of the Silver Surfer in FANTASTIC FOUR 2. Boo for Norton. As mediocre as the first "Hulk" movie was, Bana was definitely one of the saving factors. And a much better actor than Norton all around. Neat for Fishburne but I don't think there's been a movie where Doug Jones hasn't provided his own voice. In "Hellboy" David Hyde Pierce overdubbed his lines, it was that Spanish guy in "Pan's Labyrinth" and now Fishburne for "Silver Surfer." Maybe he just has better movements than a voice.

I liked Bana as Banner, but I have no issue with Norton taking over the role. He's a very good actor and physically he more closely resembles the Banner of the comic books. I think they're just trying to distance themselves from the first movie so they're going with all new actors, director, etc. They're even going so far as saying it's not really a sequel, but a new chapter in the Hulk's story. Whatever that means.
Yeah, poor Doug Jones. Does he maybe have an accent or something that wouldn't be appropriate for the characters he's played? I have no idea as I've never heard him interviewed. Though Laurence Fishburne's voice is pretty much how I've always imagined the Surfer would sound so that's excellent casting right there.

Bana made an excellent Bruce Banner, and I thought Hulk was underrated. But they're not exactly handing it off to George Clooney here, either. Edward Norton is an excellent actor, and I'm sure he'd do a great job as Bruce Banner. And between the two of them, they're both fine actors... But to compare them... well... apples and oranges. They both have different styles and they both excel at 'em.

Goyer To Direct X-men Spin Off
BATMAN BEGINS writer David S Goyer is setting his sights on another superhero property - he is directing the spin-off movie to the X-MEN trilogy, MAGNETO. The movie will focus on the young Magneto, the villain of the X-Men pictures, and how he became mortal enemies with character Professor X, played by Star Trek: The Next Generation actor Patrick Stewart in the trilogy. The main characters in the spin-off will be played by actors in their twenties instead of the original cast. Goyer has previously worked on superhero movies BATMAN BEGINS and the BLADE trilogy.
