Tropic Thunder (Ben Stiller) -- proof that Judd Apatow is not the funniest man in town. Plus it's all hilarious all the way through. Super cred. Maybe the best movie I saw during the summer? I'd certainly watch it again over The Dark Knight or something. A-.

BROKEDOWN PALACE (1999)
After graduating high school, two lifelong friends (Claire Danes and Kate Beckinsale) decide to take a vacation to Thailand. There they meet a guy who convinces them to take a weekend trip to Hong Kong, but at the airport they are busted for drug smuggling. After a quick trial they are convicted and sentenced to 33 years in prison. The two stars are cute and give good performances, but the movie feels like it's lacking. Characters kind of appear briefly and then just disappear and I didn't think it had the emotional impact it should have. Kind of plays like MIDNIGHT EXPRESS-LITE.
5/10

The Replacements (2000, Howard Deutch)
Formulaic, but funny and heartwarming. Jon Favreau was hysterical, the chemistry between all the players was believable, and something about watching a bunch of dudes line-dancing in a jail cell to "I Will Survive" made me smile. 8/10

STAY HUNGRY (1976)
What do you get when you mix Jeff Bridges, Sally Field and Arnold Schwarzenegger? This silly and fairly boring film. I watched it with the intent of it counting for the "Sports Movies" Genre of the Month, but frankly, there was a lot less "sports" in it then I anticipated. I thought the main focus was going to be the gym and the bodybuilders that work out there, but there's really only a couple of scenes of working out, and the Mr. Universe competition that Arnold is training for, occurs at almost the very end of the movie and really only takes up about 10 minutes of screen time, if that. The movie is definitely more about Jeff Bridges, who is just trying to buy the gym, so, I'm not going to count it.
2/10
COMA (1978)
A young doctor (Geneieve Bujold) starts to suspect foul play at the hospital she works at, when several relatively healthy patients go into irreversible comas during routine surgeries. Co-stars Michael Douglas as her boyfriend, also a doctor at the same hospital. Pretty good suspense thriller by writer/director Michael Chrichton. Look for a really young Tom Selleck and Ed Harris in small roles/cameos.
7/10

THE DOGS OF WAR (1980)
Christopher Walken plays a soldier of fortune who is hired, along with a group of mercenaries, to lead a military takeover of a small African country. Not the action-fest I was expecting. More of a character study, until the last ten minutes or so, when all hell breaks loose and a bunch of stuff gets blown up. Meh.

I THINK I LOVE MY WIFE (2007)
Chris Rock co-wrote, directed and stars in this movie about a typical married suburban man in a sexless marriage, who considers cheating when an old single friend reappears in his life. The old friend happens to be played by the gorgeous and supersexy Kerry Washington. Pleasant film with a few really funny moments, but nothing truly special.
5.5/10

Took my son to see Star Wars Clone Wars, which served up a heaping dose of "meh."
Exceptionally bad dialog written down to children. Very un-Star Wars music throughout.
