POLYESTER (1981) John Waters' wackiness about a suburban housewife (Divine) whose world is turned upside down when she discovers that her pornographer husband is having an affair, her daughter is dating a juvenille delinquent, and her son is a foot fetishist who is going around town stomping on women's feet. In other words, it's a feel good comedy. Divine, who was a Waters regular, is so good, in a really bad campy way, that you quickly forget that she is actually a he. Funny, weird, over the top, and like pretty much any Waters' film, not for everyone. 6.5/10

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (Wes Anderson) -- I wrote a review and I don't remember everything that I said, except that Anderson indulges himself with an adventure story. A-.
Paris, je t'aime (various directors) -- basically a love letter to Paris and there's probably a segment for everyone. I personally liked the Cuaron/Nolte one, which had a great payoff; the Gus Van Sant one, which I don't wanna spoil but another excellent payoff (and very hot guys!); the Chromet segment with the Mimes; the Coen brothers, of course, which is distinctly Coen; and the Alexander Payne part was eerily...heartbreaking, I guess, especially in the way that it was delivered. The vampire bit was a little weird, but the look was great. Also, great performances all around, even if they were in more boring bits...I'm talking Bob Hoskins. B+.

Firewall 1/4- Meh...Didn't really hold my interest for very long. I think Harrison is gettin' a little too old for the action stuff and I've seen way better performances from Paul Bettany and Virginia Madsen.

ICE AGE: THE MELTDOWN (2006)
Cute, but almost plotless sequel. The trio from the original film lead an exodus of animals to safety from their frozen valley, which is quickly melting all around them. Is Manny the mammoth the last of his kind and will Diego the sabretooth overcome his fear of water? Those are pretty much the big questions raised in the story. What do you think are the answers? Also, Scrat the squirrel is given more screentime as he still desperately tries to get his hands on an acorn and again proves that he's the Wile E. Coyote of the ice age. It's pretty funny stuff, but it's really just there to help pad the movie to it's barely 90 minute length as it adds nothing to the main story. Not offensive, and kids will probably like it, but the original is much better.
6/10

The Hudsucker Proxy 2/4- Not bad, but not the really the kind of movie that I usually watch, and not high on my list of favorite Coen movies.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END (2007) See the official review by Zap for my comments. 8/10 REEFER MADNESS (1936) Originally produced as a serious educational film, but now considered a cult classic due to the laughable, over the top story, campy acting and loads of misinformation. A pair of drug dealers invite teenagers over to their apartment to listen to music, dance (badly) and partake of what is apparently the strongest marijuana known to man. Before you know it, there's been a hit and run, an attempted rape and a shooting. Just like every party I ever went to as a teen. Ironically, a propaganda film that was originally conceived to deter kids from trying pot, is now probably most enjoyed by people who are high as a kite while watching it. I love irony. So, roll a fat one, open a bag of Doritos, sit back, and prepare to laugh your ass off. Don't worry, it's only about 77 minutes long, so it'll be over before your buzz wears off. 4/10

The Shop on Main Street- A fabulous story of wartime Czechoslovakia. It managed to make me care for the safety of the characters, two normal people. Also, the cinematography is great. A+.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - fun, short Marvel team movie. I recommend it IF you liked the first one. The buzz in my packed theater was very positive.
Day Watch - This finally arrived stateside, it's the sequel to the Russian film Night Watch. Ties up everything from the first film neatly. I see no reason why they need to make a third film.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - Poorly written and acted, but fun to watch with great special effects. Silver Surfer (the wonderful combination of Laurence Fishburne and Doug Jones) was fantastic though. Like Phoenix, I only recommend it to those who enjoyed the first film. Otherwise, there are other, better comic book films out there. 6/10

mag-no'li-a (Paul Thomas Anderson) -- lots of people breakdown, some put themselves back together again, and its a movie that "Crash" pretty much mimicked. Except its WAY better. My personal favorite story line was the kid's, Stanley Spectors. Though long, it really never felt it, and it's one of the few dramas with a showstopping musical number put in the mix. A-.

That is a film that is highly under-rated. I think it's a really great film too Pulp.
