Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - One of last year's most underrated flicks. Non-stop fun from start to finish, wonderfully choreographed fight scenes and an ending to die for. 10/10
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - Not gonna say much here. Just know that stuff I said about this being the best trilogy of its kind since Indiana Jones (or Star Wars, depending on which you compare it to), it still stands. And any time a three hour movie that doesn't feel like it's three hours long, it's a good movie. I will be writing a review on this one (and for completion purposes, the first one) shortly. 10/10

The Matrix Reloaded (2003) (HD DVD)
HD Video - Reference HD Audio Dolby Digital Plus - 10/10 HD Audio Dolby TrueHD - N/A
The second film is much better looking in the PQ area. What I'm noticing while watching these films is the sound more so. I havn't even listened to the TrueHD tracks yet but the DD+ ones blow away the current SD DVD soundtracks. I didn't expect much in the audio department from the Dolby Digital Plus tracks. The picture is free of any artifacts, vivid & clear & color leaps off the screen. Every area where I thought there could be improvement on, there was & than some.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (Gore Verbenski) -- I'm not the biggest fan of the "Pirates" trilogy, but they do provide decent action sequences, and the cannon fight in the whirlpool thing was pretty awesome. But these movies aren't movies that should be over two hours long, much less three. Each film has overstayed its welcome, I mean, they're fun but you can only take so much. And then you have this one that just throws everything out there. If they had cut half-an-hour of the dialogue, many of which I felt went nowhere, this would have been all the better for it. The best thing going for it is that it doesn't have the 3 and a half billion endings of "Lord of the Rings." B.

The War of the Roses (Danny DeVito) -- who knew that DeVito had such a visual eye. Pretty funny movie too. Just a great cast all around. B+.

Shrek the Third (Chris Miller) -- really pales in comparison to the other ones in that its become the parody but doesn't seem to realize it. Still some funny stuff, but as much as I didn't like "Narnia" maybe Adam Adamson was the creative genius behind this franchise. I did like Artie though, and the scene where he gets Merlin to help him out. B-.

Pirates of the Carribbean: At World's End- At first I groaned and thought "Pirates, the Musical." But I was then proved wrong and boy was I in for a treat. Loads of fun, it was action-packed, humorous, a bit bizzare at some of those scenes with Depp and his hallucionations of himself. And I still don't think the slow-mo was needed again. But this was probably my favorite of the trilogy. I think the original was good because we had no idea what to expect, but even though we here know what we're getting, it's just too much of a blast to say it's not as good as number one. A-.
I love this summer movie season. Popcorn flicks that are showing that they can be more than that.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance- Yesterday, I watched this film in honor of the Duke's birthday, showing him, Jimmy Stewart, and John Ford at the top of their game. A true western classic. A+.

Brief Encounter- David Lean's first masterpiece. Unlike his future epics, this is a subtle romance movie with an amazing lead performance from Celia Johnson. It is a truely classic romance and proof of the greatness that Lean would further accomplish. A+.

So far, I rank the summer films as follows:
1. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End 2. Shrek the Third 3. Spider-Man 3
I was only mildly disappointed by Spider-Man 3 (in retrospect), but I still enjoyed it quite a bit (much more than last year's folly, X-Men 3). Shrek and Pirates were both great summer flicks IMO, and aside from flicks like Ratatouille, the Simpsons and the Bourne Ultimatum, I think the summer season is gonna probably go downhill from here.
Surf's Up actually looks pretty decent, even if it is another penguin movie.
