It's that time of year again, where we vote for our favorites in each category. Deadline for nominations is February 20th. Oscars are March 5th, and I'd like to announce the winners on that day. So send me in PM your top 10 (maximum) for the following categories:
Best Motion Picture of the Year Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role Best Achievement in Directing Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published Best Achievement in Cinematography Best Achievement in Editing Best Achievement in Art Decoration Best Achievement in Costume Design Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song Best Achievement in Makeup Best Achievement in Sound Best Achievement in Sound Editing Best Achievement in Visual Effects Best Animated Feature Film of the Year Best Foreign Language Film of the Year Best Documentary, Features Best Documentary, Short Subjects* Best Short Film, Animated* Best Short Film, Live Action*
*Will be omitted if no nominations are made.
Don't rush to get these in to me, you have 20 days. If there are movies you would like to see before submitting your list, then by all means do so.
Eligibility:
1. Films that had their first theatrical release (wide or limited) in 2005 only. The release may be limited. Film festivals do not count as a theatrical release. 2. Some films released in January 2006 are eligible, as they had limited releases in 2005. If unsure, look the film up on IMDb. Also, IMDb may cite a 2005 film as 2004. Check under release dates to be sure it wasn't just a film festival. 3. Foreign films are eligible, as long as they have been released in the U.S. this year. 4. Documentaries are not eligible for Best Picture.

These are what we would pick as nominees and winners, not what was actually nominated by the Academy, right?

Smitty, I'll be seeing 'Brokeback Mountain' this weekend (finally found SOMEONE that will go w/me and i'm hoping most of the theater-disrupters will have already seen it), so I will send in my choices after I see it as everyone seems to be tripping over themselves for that movie.

I'm actually holding off until I can watch Transamerica, and hopefully Mrs. Henderson Presents. I was hoping to catch the Squid and the Whale, but that doesn't look too likely to happen between now and the 20th. I might also check out Junebug, considering its current availability on DVD.
You have until the 20th, so no rush.
