I hope it's not Billy Corgan...
Steven Tyler?
Joe Perry?
Chris Cornell?
Axl Rose?

Chris Cornell was already guessed. Billy Idol is British. Tyler & Perry of Aerosmith started out in the 70's. Axle is from an 80's hair metal band. Corgan and Cobain are from alternative bands. Someone's not paying attention to the hints.

I may be violating some hints here as well, but let's shoot anyway:
Trent Reznor? Phil Anselmo? Perry Farrell? Peter Steele?
...because it CAN'T be Eddie Vedder, right?

That's Thom Yorke by the way, and I think he's way different from The Crow.
Sorry, as a fan gotta do this kinda stuff.

Ooh, I think we're getting down to the wire here. I'm getting the feeling this is going to turn out to be someone no one here expected. Madonna ;D

Someone's not paying attention to the hints. I read the hints and then my mind just exploded with nonsense anyway. Personally, I consider G-n-R to be a Hard Rock/Traditional Heavy Metal band--they sound completely different from Hair crap (Warrant sucks and blows). They had the poofed hair for a while, but far different music. He's not a legend, but he's fairly well known, he's from the 80's, not Buttrock (Hair Metal), Alternative... is the vocalist... John Mellancamp Joey Belladonna Glen Benton!

They had the poofed hair for a while, but far different music. While I personally agree with you, that G N' R were head and shoulders above most of their peers in the L.A. hair band rock scene, because most people seem to lump them in with all the other hair bands, for the benefit of this thread, I did the same. John Mellancamp Joey Belladonna Glen Benton! No. Time for another hint? This band and it's lead singer are more in the tradition of blues-based rock, ala Aerosmith. Anymore hints and I'll pretty much just be giving you guys the answer.
