Watching The Godfather on DVD recently - for just the second time in my life - I thought that there are probably many people who know this classic by heart and have seen it 10, 20 or even more times. Therefore the question.

I think I've seen it all the way through about 4 times - bits and pieces of it maybe more like 20.
;D
Hope you enjoyed your second viewing!

Hope you enjoyed your second viewing! I did. More than the first one, actually, as DVD is a far better source than TV - for the first time I heard the characters speaking English!

I picked more than 10, but it's probably more like 30 or 40. Yes, it's one of my obsessions. ;D One of those films that I know every line by heart. A true classic & one of my all-time favorites.

I've only seen it once.
Actually, I felt it was overrated, I mean it was a great movie, but not as great as people make it out to be (I personally prefer Coppola's Apocolypse Now). Maybe seeing all the parodies inadvertantly kinda ruined it for me and kept it from being the masterpiece that everyone says it is (though I'd take Bart getting pummeled with snowballs over James Cann getting riddled with bullets anyday).

There's always got to be one. Yeah, there's one in every family.... Why do you think it's over-rated Pulp?

First, I'd like to say I loved The Godfather Part II because it had Robert De Niro and he has always been and will always be totally awesome (sure, some of his film choices are really lackluster...Hide and Seek looks horrid, Showtime, Godsend...).
But I think The Godfather is overrated because I saw it after seeing all the parodies of it on The Simpsons and in the gangster moviest that followed.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great, great great film, but it's not the best ever like a lot of people like to say (or the IMDb poll).
But that's just me.

Well, here's the thing. I like Part II more too. Not a lot more, but still, more. Mainly because I really love the segments with the young Vito Corleone (DeNiro). But I, in no way, think that means that Part I is overrated. It just means that Part I is a great film and Part II is just a little greater. I never watch Part I, without watching Part II soon after. And sometimes I'll even watch Part III afterwards.
