Gong fu (Kung Fu Hustle) - First of all, allow me to castrate the MPAA. This was the most wrongful R-Rating I've ever seen issued. There's no swearing, no sex, and it was no more violent than Spider-man 2.
That being said, it's a shame that this movie's not going to make as much money as it deserves, it is an excellent movie. It's got lots of cool action sequences, and tons of laughs. It was much better than I expected (thanks to the trailer, I wasn't expecting much).
10/10

I agree w/Smitty's Kung Fu Hustle synopsis. I had one of those 'bad movie theatre' experiences with people reading the subtitles out loud and I spilled my popcorn , but the movie was good enough to redeem those things. VERY SILLY! & very fun. I'm not sure why it got an 'R' rating either...it seemed very childish in it's humor. A little blood - but really fake!

Game of Their Lives, The - Acclaimed sports movie director David Anspaugh brings another one of the greatest sports stories of all time to life, the Game of Their Lives. It's a little slow at times, but it's still worth watching if you like sports movies. And Gerard Butler did an excellent job disguising his accent. - 9/10
Interpreter, The - I'll be honest, I've never seen anything else by Sydney Pollack. But after seeing this movie, I can say that Pollack knows how to build tension. In a way, this movie torments you with how much tension it builds. Pollack takes his time to answer all the questions, so he basically has you at his mercy. THIS is what an "grown-up" thriller is all about. 10/10

A Lot Like Love - This certainly isn't a thinker's flick, but it is one of those "feel-good" movies. Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet play off each other nicely. The movie is generally well-written (apparently, someone's taking notes from Kevin Smith), but the direction leaves something to be desired. I'm still bothered by the fact that in a scene that takes place in 2001, there's a Raising Helen (2004) billboard in the background. But overall, it's a nice date movie that's much better than Ashton Kutcher's usual fare (except for the Butterfly Effect, which was awesome). - 7.5/10

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The - A movie I feel was released a week too early (should have been among the summer movies), but still a decent flick. The movie is funny, clever, and witty, but kinda leaves something to be desired. Maybe it was the poorly cast Mos Def, maybe it was Sam Rockwell's surprising overracting in some scenes, or maybe it was a sort of unfulfilled feeling when the movie is over, but it falls short of perfect. Alan Rickman was HILARIOUS, and Bill Nighy's character was very good as well. The movie's imperfections aside, I feel it's highly recommendable, and I will soon be re-opening my site with my full review sometime this week. 8.5/10

A movie I feel was released a week too early (should have been among the summer movies) Well, they probably didn't wanna compete too closely with that other intergalactic epic opening on the 19th. You don't wanna mess with the latest prequel from Darth Flannel. Cinematic suicide.

That's a good point. I really liked Hitchhikers'. It's all the funnier if you've read the books, though. There are so many injokes.
Sam Rockwell, I felt was perfect and I liked how the two-headed thing was done because too necks and heads would've looked retarded. MoS Def was okay. Martin Freeman (I think it was him) did the best Arthur Dent. Zoeey Deschenaal or whatever was probably the weakest one, but still a great movie.
So long and thanks for all the fish.

House of D (2004) - I saw the trailer for this movie and was very intrigued to see it. Then I saw the reviews, and they were terrible. But here's the thing that struck me odd about these "terrible" reviews: they didn't really give us reasons why this would be a bad movie, they just seemed to be... mean. Why would that be? Well... Maybe it's because House of D is NOT a bad movie. I think the poor reviews either came from critics who wanted to point out that they're not art house whores (they should have tried to prove that when they reviewed Open Water), or they had something against David Duchovny for doing something other than the X-Files (God forbid, huh?).
Some might complain that my score is a little high. Well, this is MY opinion. I felt there was absolutely nothing wrong with this movie. It had me laughing at some points, and it had me in tears at others. It's very hard to get me to cry at a movie, so this movie really did a fine job drawing emotion from the audience. You should definitely feel something by the end of this movie. All the performers did a fine job (even Tea Leoni, who I thought was terrible in Spanglish), and David Duchovny shows some major promise as a writer/director. It's a pretty sappy flick, and at this point of my life, I was really in the mood for something sappy. Check it out, this was a good movie. Full review and website coming soon. 10/10
