Patton, Patton, Patton: another movie that can make me arrested by the Movie Police! I even bought an old VHS copy of it several months ago, and still haven't watched it! Shame! I heard lots of good things about it, I saw bits and pieces and I think I end up loving it - just can't find the time to feed it to my VCR.
No voting in the poll, then. I will when I see it. And seeing Raging Bull would be a good idea too, I guess.
What about you guys?

I'm going to wait until after I've watched the hopefully, soon-to-be-released RAGING BULL Special Edition to vote in this poll. As it stands AMADEUS holds the advantage over it because I've seen it more times. I've only seen RG once and that was years ago. AMADEUS is a great movie though. As long as we're not judging these by historical accuracy. All good films in this poll. And every film fan should make an effort to see all of them.

JFK has good chances of winning it for me, too, but I just have to compare it with Patton. Have to!

I decided to put some older movies in the poll. Many classics still had to be omitted because of the eight titles limit. But there's always the "other" option for you to choose.

Amadeus has my vote.
I have to admit though that I haven't seen many of the other films in their entirety. Never could make it through Gandhi, Patton, or Lawrence of Arabia.
Raging Bull is a fantastic film though. It comes in a close second.

Amadeus has my vote. Raging Bull is a fantastic film though. It comes in a close second. Yup, have to agree with Phoenix here. Just watched RAGING BULL for the second time, the first was years ago, and it is a great film, but gotta go with AMADEUS for overall entertainment value. That's probably just Smitty's way of saying that he hasn't seen any of the choices in the poll. We've seen your Movie Police list, buddy. ;D

Amadeus is a great film. But it's not really a biopic because most of it was ficticious. Salieri and Mozart were never really enemies and Salieri was respected in his time.
Raging Bull is a better biopic, I was watching an interview with Scorsese where he said he didn't like sports movies but De Niro talked him into doing it. And thank God he did, too.
But none of that compares to Lawrence of Arabia. David Lean's 3.5 hour film about Lawrence (here on called Larry) as he helps Arabs battle Turks, blows up a lot of stuff, gives the desert hell while respecting it's majesty...this is a beautiful film. From the score to the cinematography to the direction, everything about this film is simply brilliant.

How about Confessions of a Dangerous Mind? If we're judging biopics on the actor's portrayal of the person, then surely Sam Rockwell comes a close second to Bobby D's Jake LaMotta. And just to be controversial, I thought Raging Bull was overrated. I love Scorsese, and Taxi Driver and Goodfellas are two of my favourite films (and I actually quite like Gangs of New York), but Raging Bull just seemed a bit cold. technically brilliant, but it lacked the real spirit of Goodfellas.

Is Confessions of a Dangerous Mind considered a biopic though?

Is Confessions of a Dangerous Mind considered a biopic though? Yeah, I never thought of it that way. Plus, if we talk about "cold" movies, Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind beats most of them, I think -- one of the reasons why I don't like it.
