Go easy on her. I remember when I was the only kid in school who hadn't seen Star Wars. In fact, my first encounter with Star Wars was when I saw Episode I in theaters. Even so, it took me a while to get a hold of the original trilogy, so it took me some time to see that. Luckily, I saw it about a half year before Episode II was released.
I suppose this proves a couple of things:
1. The Phantom Menace does NOT suck, because if it did, I wouldn't have even bothered watching the original trilogy.
2. The original trilogy is more than "just three movies we grew up with", because I didn't grow up with these movies, and I still think they're one of the greatest things to happen to cinema.
So get a hold of these movies fast, before Episode III is released.

But i'm pretty sure that i'll end up having to go see this next one...so i'll let you all know how it goes! hehe At least take this bit of advice. Do yourself a favor and see Episodes I & II first or you won't have any idea what the hell's going on in Episode III. I mean, it is the "third" part of a series. You're not one of those people who skips to the last page of a book to see how the story ends, are you? Well, same thing here. You don't intentionally watch part III first and then later watch parts I & II. As far as being able to watch them in numerical order, I-VI, being "lucky", that's debateable. Yes, chronologically it's correct, but there are a few things that happen in the classic trilogy, IV-VI, that are surprises. If you see I-III first, these things will no longer be surprises. Right?

Yes, there were surprises in the Original Trilogy, but thinking "what if" you could go back & watch all the films in order for the first time, you'd still have all 'em surprises & then some, BUT the viewer would pick up on those surprises or twists a lot quicker. The main storyline of EP III has already been revealed to those who have seen the Original Trilogy.

Well, I agree that they are great in their own right, no argument there. But to me they ARE three movies that I grew up with. So aside from the actual movies I have the memories of playing w/ the little action figures & dressing up every Halloween like Leia after the movies came out. ;D So for me that just adds to the whole atmosphere of the movie experience & fond childhood memories.

I can take the heat...I got this all the time in high school. All my friends were movie geeks and couldn't believe I refused to watch Star Wars. If I decide to watch them I figure it's best to watch them in the order in which they were released...then i'll have seen them the same way as everyone else. *shrugs*
And yes...I can be stubborn sometimes! hehe

The cult favorite I was looking forwards to already came and passed.
But even my jock brother and father have seen Star Wars. However, I still believe you should watch it in the order of release not this "intended order." Watching it in its "intended order" is like listening to "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" in its original order. Sure, it's what was planned, but the finished result is what we'll all remember so brilliantly and vividly.

As a fan of the following kinds of movies: Horror, Cult, Shock, Exploitation, Independent Cinema, and over-all bizarre underground collections of weirdness;
I am proud to say I can finally cross Eraserhead of my "gotta see it" list. Hooray for David Lynch!

Yeah, that Lynch. I've totally given up trying to understand ANY of his films...well, maybe The Straight Story, but the rest make my brain want to explode.

Pearl Harbor is a good example of how not to make a war movie - too many love letters read by sunset and too little grittiness there. Hey Bart! Pearl Harbor is not a war movie but just a love story with a war in the background.
