A really precious piece of cinema, Smoke! One of my favourite movies ever, believe it or not!
And for more Bond news... Now about a new Bond baddie:
The next actor who stands up and declares they'd "really rather like to play Bond" will, if Empire has anything to do with it, be strapped to a large metal table and slowly bisected by a laser beam. "You expect me to talk?" "No Mr Williams, we expect you to die!" Seriously though, it's all getting rather tiresome. After all, who wouldn't want to play the world's most famous spy? Empire certainly would and we be damned good at it too… but we digress.
The latest development on this front sees Sir Ben Kingsley as the latest would-be to put his hand in the air but, refreshingly, it's not to don the trademark tux. No, Sir Ben has registered his interest in the 21st instalment in the franchise, not to be the hero but to try and kill him instead. Talking on Capital FM, Sir Ben declared to listeners "I would like to make it known, on this program, loud and clear, that I would absolutely embrace with all five of my arms being a Bond villain."
Hear that Eon? Sir Ben has spoken and, given how badly he scared the pants off us in Sexy Beast, he might just be the man for the job. Anyone who saw Thunderbirds will undoubtedly beg to differ though.

This just in, from IMDb:
Pierce Brosnan: "I Haven't Said No to Bond"
Reports that Pierce Brosnan won't return as superspy James Bond are premature - the movie star insists he's still interested in playing 007 again. Brosnan insists rumors of his retirement as Bond came about when a reporter misunderstood the actor's insistence that he no longer wanted to talk about the character in an interview. He says, "There was no announcement. I think the reporter heard it wrong. I think what I said was, 'I've had my fill of talking about Bond.' It was not an official announcement."
Okay, reporters, do you know what happens when you ASSUME? You make an ASS out of U and ME. In the immortal words of Napoleon Dynamite, "Idiot!"
I'm glad to see Pierce Brosnan hasn't given up on Bond. I liked Die Another Day, but I think he should leave the franchise on a stronger movie. Perhaps Casino Royale, with hopeful director Quentin Tarantino.

From Sci-Fi.com: MGM, which is in the process of being purchased by Sony, has put the development of a new installment of its most important franchise on hold, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The studio said it decided to delay the 21st Bond movie, originally scheduled for release Nov. 21, 2005, because it has not yet found a director.
The sale of the studio affected the project because executives were unable to do any development during the five months of negotiations, the trade paper reported. There has also been speculation that former Bond star Pierce Brosnan will not return as 007, though MGM did not confirm the rumor. To make its November release date, the project would have to begin filming in January or February of next year, but without a director or star in place, the franchise remains in limbo.Looks like no Bond movie anytime soon.

Damn it, just give the movie to Tarantino!
The poor guy, he's like that geek in Geometry who knows the answer to the problem, is raising his hand up high, waving it like a madman, and never gets called on by the teacher.
HE WANTS TO DO CASINO ROYALE! LET HIM DO IT!

;D I completely agree. What's the problem? Tarantino wants to do it. Brosnan would like to work with Tarantino. What are they afraid of? That Tarantino might make an edgy, adult Bond film? Ooh, horrors! Idiots.

Yes, God forbid a Bond film which thrives on action and sexual innuendo receive an R-rating. God, I hate Hollywood.

From IMDB: Despite Pierce Brosnan's recent denial that he had decided not to accept another movie assignment as James Bond and his insistence that, to the contrary, he would like to have another go at the character, chances appear slim that he'll return, the Los Angeles Times indicated today (Monday). The newspaper observed that producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who control the Bond franchise, have let it be known that they want to replace the 51-year-old Brosnan with an 28-32 year-old actor. And Brosnan himself told the newspaper that the pair call the shots: "We've had a lot of success together. But as to the fate of the franchise, you have to remember that at the end of the day, it's the Broccolis' family business."

Ok forget it. I'm just going to ignore every Bond article until something solid comes up. Me too. There is a rumor every 3-5 days it seems. Until someone's signed a contract I vow to ignore all bond related articles.

Hey, it's been over a week since we've had any James Bond news, so here ya go! From IMDB: Brosnan Says Bond Producers Aren't Interested in Him Anymore
Pierce Brosnan's days as James Bond are over. Appearing to end speculation about whether he will return to the role, Brosnan has told the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet: "I had a contract for four Bond films. ... I did them and told them that I'd like to continue. But suddenly, in the middle of negotiations, they changed their minds. They said that they weren't interested any more. I was shocked, perplexed. I loved Bond. He's given me so much, mostly a face out in the international market. Afterwards, I was happy. Now it feels like a relief."

I have less and less hope for one last Brosnan's Bond. However, he was saying almost the same things several months ago to Empire - and after some time they were denied personally by him.

Last time I heard of it, Martin Campbell, the director of GoldenEye, was almost certain to be helming the new Bond. I liked GEye but I hope Martin can come up with something even better for Bond 21 to soothe our pain after the loss of Tarantino.
