MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III (2006) My favorite of the series. 8/10 Just saw this one too - VERY FUN MOVIE! I say 7/10 - knocks for a bit of a cliche ending. I will say this though - it was refreshing to see some big explosions and action that wasn't CGI'd - or if it was CGI'd I couldn't tell. I had a blast seeing it!

Poseidon (2006)
Sometimes a great movie, sometimes a terrible movie. So it averages out to something... good. Good, not great. So I'm gonna do this straight out of the book of Quorthon.
The Good: The acting (sometimes) The special effects (sometimes) The action sequences
The Bad: The acting (sometimes) The direction. It just seemed very rushed, and the movie went by too fast to actually stick with me.
The Ugly: The writing (God awful) The special effects (there were some shots where the effects were bad enough to give Van Helsing a run for its money)
So for Petersen, this was definitely a step down from Troy. I had fun watching it, but considering the talent involved, I was hoping for something above average, and not just average.
Give me the original over this one any day of the week.

Cronenberg's Crash The Eyes of Laura Mars
Planned on writing up reviews for them as soon as I have time, and when E3's over. Been a hellish fucking week overall. I'd get into it more, but have about burned myself out on the subject.

The Bad News Bears--the original and such a great movie. One of the best sports movies I suppose. B.

Poseidon- Great special effects. Good acting. A fun, mindless, predictable action flick.
Ben-Hur- Phenomenal biblical epic.

Rebel without a Cause- Dean is fantastic. So is the movie.
All Quiet on the Western Front- A graphic, gritty depiction of war. Also a classis movie.

Akeelah and the Bee
Who knew that a movie about a spelling bee could be so powerful? It's not without its clichés (including a barrage of montages) and stereotypes (her biggest competition is of Asian descent), but the performances make this one worth seeing, especially young newcomer Keke Palmer (who may be getting some Oscar consideration for her performance). Lawrence Fishburne was great, too.
