THE UPSIDE OF ANGER (2005)
Nice surprise. Another excellent performance by Joan Allen (surprised she didn't get an Oscar nomination) and another understated and underrated performance by Kevin Costner. I grew up in Detroit and still live just outside of it, so it's nice to see a movie set here that doesn't focus on the slummy areas. Kudos to writer-director and local boy Mike Binder, who also plays Costner's radio show producer. 7/10

Dumb & Dumber: Unrated (1994) 3/4 stars or 8/10
15 years later, those extra 6 minutes were well worth the double-dip. The dvd transfer is slightly improved & the dts=es 6.1 surround really gives this film's musical score & overall sound, a noticeable edge of the first release. This title & Se7en Flipper-disc, were my first 2 dvd purchases. Its nice to see one of my favs being released only once sinse 1997 on dvd. I'm tired of films being re-released just months after their initial release. Above those re-issues in all stores should read: (Dumb & Dumber) ;D

Capote - An excellent American tragedy. If you've read Capote's In Cold Blood, that book is basically what the movie is about. Phillip Seymour Hoffman deserves the win, but Catherine Keener did not deserve her nomination. She did fine, but she was hardly in the movie - she didn't even have enough time to actually... perform. She was more deserving for her performance in the 40 Year Old Virgin. Still, Capote is one of this year's must-see films.

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre - A classic character study which holds one of Humphrey Bogart's best performances.

Raising Helen 3/4 I usually don't watch many romantic comedies, but I really liked this one.

Dumb & Dumber: Unrated (1994) 3/4 stars or 8/1015 years later, those extra 6 minutes were well worth the double-dip. So what's there exactly, Term? Here is what I remember; Spoilers*You see Seebass's spit. ;D *In the diner, Jeff asks for another coke because there is no bubbles.... The waitress grabs the glass & blows bubbles through the straw. ;D *For a good time, be here 2:15am sharp. You see Seebass pull down his pants. *The hot-tub scene is extended. Jim Carrey is listening to a couple in the next room having sex with a shooter glass. *Jeff comments on "what if" Jim & marry wed... Merry Christmas... Jim gets hostel with Jeff. ;D *Another scene I remember is in the hotel room & Jim is comenting on Jeff's ski suit. *Ohh, almost forgot. ;D The toliet scene is extended. Jeff lifts up the whole toilet & is dumping the crap & piss out the window.

Catherine Keener did not deserve her nomination. She did fine, but she was hardly in the movie - she didn't even have enough time to actually... perform. Was her screen time over six minutes? Remember, 1969: Sylvia Miles was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress role in Midnight Cowboy, and she was only in it for six minutes!

Last night saw the B-grade Zuckers Bros film Top Secret. Only they could've made this movie, filled with their trademark sight and visual gags, and my ever favorite humor-inducing trick the play-on-words. Laughed more than I thought, better than I thought it would be. 8.5/10

Annapolis (2006) - Not nearly as bad as the critics would have you believe... but not that good either. See, the critics will have you believe this is a terrble, terrible movie. It's not. It's just highly forgettable, and all-too-familiar territory. Lost points for screenwriting, and lost even more points for originality (lack thereof). It's the double-whammy remake: Rocky and An Officer and a Gentleman. Seriously, the similarities between this film and BOTH of those movies is startling. It is a major step down for director Justin Lin (Better Luck Tomorrow), but at least the actors for the most part did a fine job.
